I started tutoring professionally straight after graduating in 2020. I quickly found that it was an immensely rewarding career, and expanded my part time work to include students from the full spectrum of education.
I have over a thousand hours of experience working with pupils online and in person, and have become proficient in both methods. I have also completed Keystone's extensive 11+ Maths course. Students with whom I have worked have seen a marked improvement in their grades, and in their confidence.
I have experience in preparing students for application to a range of schools and universities, including Westminster, Sevenoaks, Brighton College, Tiffin Boys/Girls School, Imperial College London, Cambridge University, and Oxford University.
I grew up in Kingston Upon Thames in South West London, and after studying Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A-Level (A*A*A*) at Tiffin Boys School, I was offered a place to study Mathematics at Wadham College, Oxford University. I have always been drawn to understanding the fundamental building blocks of Mathematics, so being able to explore those at university was a wonderful experience.
I received a 2:1, and since graduating I have been working as a Maths tutor at all levels: from 11+ preparation to Oxbridge interview practice. After a year of greatly enjoying self-employed tuition, I decided that I wanted to commit to this career path and applied to work full time for Keystone Tutors.
In my experience, I have found that versatility is invaluable within the world of tutoring: no two students are the same, and so a one-size-fits-all approach rarely yields the best results.
Therefore I aim to be an attentive and patient tutor to assess students individually and cater to their specific needs. My past pupils have had a wide range of ability (and interest!) in Maths, so I am well suited to adapt to any level of expertise, whether that is helping a student get to grips with the basics or venturing beyond the curriculum.
I like to seek out (and write) questions to target areas where students struggle, and explore topics from angles that may not be used in school to find the method that works best for them. I hope that by sharing my passion for learning, pupils will take an interest in their work and enjoy the journey towards their exams.
What I do when I am not tutoring
My tutoring work is a full-time occupation: I am passionate and dedicated to education and so naturally it is my priority. When I have some spare time, I enjoy playing guitar and piano, as well as learning to code and doing a bit of travelling when I have the time!
''Christian is a born teacher. He immediately engaged my children. He has the ability to explain even the most complex mathematical problems in a way that makes it easy for them to understand. Even my son, who was not at all keen to have maths tuition, has wanted to work hard for him. Christian is very patient and gives the children confidence. I couldn't recommend him more highly.'' (Mother of a boy and a girl in Year 5)
''My older son does not enjoy maths, thanks to Christian he learned how to enjoy the subject, gained confidence and improved his grades. My second son who loves maths was challenged by Christian who is always reliable, kind and patient.'' (Mother of two boys in Year 7 and 9)
''Christian provided math tuition for my daughter and neice, we found him to be patient with both girls who struggled to understand certain concepts which he made very simple for them. My daughter reported that Christian always seemed to know just what to focus on and in the time he worked with them both girls improved in their knowledge and grades.'' (Mother of girl in Year 9)
''Christian did a fanastic job working with my son. He is a talented, patient and kind tutor who brought maths alive and really engaged with a 15 year old who had previously lacked confidence'' (Mother of a boy in Year 11)
“You have helped me gain confidence in my problem solving skills significantly through your help, preparing me for both the MAT and A level maths exams. I would not be as ready as I am without your help, thank you.” (Student in Year 12)
“Christian, has been a fantastic maths tutor for my daughter. His lessons are well prepared, clear and entertaining. He is a talented mathematician; his vast knowledge of the subject allows him to transform complex problems into ideas that are easy to understand. I was really happy to see my daughter not only learning but enjoying maths (she became top of her class). Christian is kind, patient and dedicated. Thank you very much!'' (Mother of a girl in Year 9)
