I have been an entrance exam specialist since 2014. My previous students have been successful in the following top prep schools: Bute House, Lady Eleanor Holles, South Hampstead High School, Putney High School, Highgate, North London Collegiate, City of London School for Girls, Wetherby, Westminster Under, Westminster Cathedral Choir School, St Paul’s, King’s, New College, Eltham College, Magdalen College, Brighton College, Perse School, Caldicott.
I often work with many international families, helping students transition to the National Curriculum and prepare for a British education. I am familiar with helping children prepare for boarding schools in the UK and have successfully placed children at Badminton School and Summer Fields School.
I am a fully qualified primary teacher who has over a decade of experience teaching in classrooms - both in the public and private sectors in the UK and internationally. I have worked as a classroom teacher in Reception – Year 6 and at University I chose to specialise in ASD so I have a strong understanding of additional support needs.
Having taught English for a summer in Italy, I am also familiar with the ways in which bilingual children learn best. I also hold a qualification from the British Dyslexia Association which allows me to cater for children who may experience barriers to traditional teaching and learning methods.
I now work solely with children who are preparing for the school entrance exams. In 2018 I created my own website offering resources to help children prepare for the 7+ exams. I wrote a bespoke 7+ curriculum alongside write exam papers in both English and Maths. I often write blog posts for both my own website and other tuition agencies regarding all areas of entrance exams and online tuition.
I was born in Kilmacolm, a small village just outside of Glasgow and I come from a long line of primary teachers! I decided to follow in my parents’ footsteps and attended the University of Strathclyde in 2008, where I graduated with a first class honors degree in Primary Education.
I lived and worked in Glasgow as a primary teacher, working with children from ages 4-12 before moving to London. During my time in London I worked as a class teacher in both the state and private sectors and it was in 2015 that I decided to start also working as a tutor, specialising in the 7+ and 8+ exams. I made the decision to leave the classroom and become a full time tutor.
In 2017, my husband and I relocated to Tokyo and I worked in the British School in Reception – Year 3 classes. After our son was born, we moved back to Scotland at the end of 2019 and since then I have been working exclusively as an online tutor, offering lessons to students in London and abroad who are preparing for their entrance exams.
I am truly passionate about tuition and see it as my vocation. My main priority when teaching is to ensure that my students develop a genuine enjoyment of and engagement in their learning. My goal is for my students to develop a positive attitude towards lifelong learning.
I offer online lessons that are tailor made to suit both the needs and interests of my students and I use Zoom and Google Slides to create interactive, engaging lessons that mimic the conditions of the classroom.
I am a committed individual who aims to help children reach their fullest potential, and not just academically. I place just as much importance in building students' confidence, self-esteem and resilience and I like to adopt a skills-based approach to learning, where students are equipped with a bank of skills that they will use and apply far beyond the entrance exam.
When I am not working, I like to spend as much quality time as possible with my family. My husband and I often take our young son on holiday to St Andrews, where we enjoy spending time on the beach and watching the golfers on the famous Old Course. Friends are also very important to me and I enjoy meeting up for coffees, although with young children finishing a full, hot drink is often quite ambitious!
I like to exercise when I can, and I regularly swim and attend yoga classes. I am also an avid reader and I enjoy writing in my spare time. I am hoping to embark on a creative writing course soon, with the view to writing my own short stories.
As my husband is often in France for work, I am currently learning French in my spare time with the view of impressing local Parisians with my newly learned phrases!
