Before we can help a student, we often need to spend a significant amount of time learning about the student's requirements. Most consultations are carried out over the phone or on a video call.
Step 2: Academic Assessment (optional)
Students sit our custom-made academic assessments to indicate their level in relation to their peers, and in order to identify suggested areas to work on. Parents also seek academic assessments for their children to determine their general strengths and weaknesses, and decide upon a set of objectives for the course of tuition.
Step 3: Tutor Selection Process
The selection of the tutor is an integral part of our process. Priding ourselves on how well we know the varying strengths of each tutor, we ensure that each decision is informed by the expectation of a successful match between the tutor and student.
Step 4: Regular Progress Monitoring

Yes, we offer a trial lesson. With Keystone, you are not required to sign up for any minimum number of lessons, and we offer one-off paid trial lessons so that your child can determine if the fit is right for them. This allows students and parents tutoring through Keystone before committing to regular sessions. The trial lesson is charged at the tutor’s full hourly rate and there is no obligation to continue if you feel it's not the right match.
We have a monthly reporting system which is used to update parents on an ongoing basis. The monthly report details:
- the focus of that month’s tutoring
- the form of assessment used
- the student's achievements and areas for further work
- the focus for the coming month

What is the extended essay for IB?
The extended essay is a compulsory element of the International Baccalaureate for any subject group. The components are an essay of 3500 to 4000 words and a viva voce, and these are completed over the course of a year. Guide to IB English
As part of the IB Diploma Programme, students take at least one subject from studies in language and literature.
This means that for all students, some form of “IB English” is mandatory. Depending on the student, this can either be an exciting prospect or a daunting one.
For those students who find English to be a chore or a necessary evil, may I begin by offering a piece of general advice: see if you can reframe your way of thinking about the subject so that English isn’t just a box to tick. Reading widely and writing for different audiences can, among other things, equip you with excellent communication skills and exposure to different ideas and cultures, which are invaluable tools for success in any given career, or indeed, life in general. More often than not, all that’s required - to uncover a passion for reading and the study of English - is the right book at the right time. Explore texts from your reading list and beyond to give yourself the best chance of success.
It is vital that, before making decisions about a particular course of study within the IB English curriculum, students first evaluate their own skills, interests and capabilities.
With regard to IB English, here are the possible courses on offer:
- Literature (SL/HL) – literary texts only
- Language and literature (SL/HL) – literary and non-literary texts
- Literature and performance (SL only)
Teaching requirements for IB English
- Standard Level (SL): 150 hours of teaching
- Higher Level (HL): 240 hours of teaching

Guide to IB ToK (Theory of Knowledge)
What is IB ToK?
Theory of Knowledge (ToK) is one of the core components of the IB Diploma Programme. It is mandatory for all students and the ToK requirement is central to the educational philosophy of the IB Diploma.
The ToK course provides an opportunity for students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, and on “how we know” what we claim to know. Students will be required to think deeply and philosophically about what knowledge actually is; where it comes from, what it is constituted of, and the role of bias in shaping our views and beliefs.

Guide to IB Revision Techniques
When to begin IB revision?
IB exams begin as early as late April for some subjects, and your revision perhaps begins in earnest with your mock exams, which generally take place early in your final year of IB study.
Revising for mocks will give you an opportunity to test what it is like to revise course material you’ve already covered, and rehearse some of the revision techniques that will become so crucial later on in the year. Mocks also generally mark the boundary of original subject material you will be expected to learn, and this is a good time for teachers and students to take stock of what has been learned – and start thinking in earnest about the summer exams to come.
Most students find it useful to create a timetable for their revision even at this early stage. Though timetabling becomes even more crucial when your school days are dissolved and you are expected to take responsibility for your own study.

The study of the natural environment is referred to as physical geography, and humanity’s interactions with the environment are referred to as human geography.
