IB Chemistry
A Level Chemistry (AQA, OCR & Edexcel)
(I)GCSE Biology and Chemistry (AQA, CIE, OCR & Edexcel)

I have a PGCE in Chemistry Secondary Education and have been a teacher now for 15 years. I have taught and tutored IB chemistry for 11 years at higher and standard level. In additional I have also taught and privately tutored A level chemistry and biology, IGCSE/GCSE chemistry, biology and coordinated science and also key stage 3 science.

After taking my A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics I went on to do a Master of Chemistry degree at the University of Liverpool where I gained a first class degree. I then went on to work as a Senior Clinical Scientist for the NHS, during which time I also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Biochemistry. I did this job before training to become a teacher. I have a teaching qualification (PGCE) and qualified teacher status. I have worked in China 5 years as the Head of Science for a department of 20 members of staff. I am a passionate and outstanding teacher with a proven record of my students achieving top exam results (my latest cohort achieved a significant number of level 7s and well above the world average for IB HL Chemistry. In addition my Extended Essay student achieved an A grade).

“My daughter was struggling with IB Chemistry and her grade had fallen to a level 4. They quickly matched us with Claire, who was reassuring from the start. Claire focused on the areas where our daughter needed help, taught her how to approach exam style questions, and was always available by email outside lesson times. She never moved on from a topic until our daughter fully understood it. On results day she achieved a level 7. Moving from a 4 to a 7 in just over a year was remarkable. We’re very pleased with the outcome and extremely grateful to Keystone Tutors and Claire for their support.”

“Highly recommend. We had an excellent experience with several tutors over the course of three years to prepare for the IB exam. In particular, my son had an exceptional experience with his HL Chemistry Tutor, Claire. Both her subject matter expertise and focused support led to a positive experience and outcome.”

Every student is different in the way they learn and therefore every lesson is planned for that individual. I definitely do not agree with a lecture style approach to teaching but instead I find that using inquiry based techniques with questioning enables the student to make the maximum progress. I am energetic and engaging and will utilize lots of different strategies during the lesson. I have access to exam questions and will spend time to teach different exam strategies and how to gain full marks.

I am currently in England and working part time in a 6th form college teaching Chemistry and Biology A level. I private tutor during the rest of the week. I enjoy to private tutor as I like to see students progress and create lessons that are all individualised to meet the needs of each student. One of the aspects of private tutoring that gives me a lot of satisfaction is to see a student who had no interest in science choose to continue their studies in a science related area because they have enjoyed my lessons so much. When I am not tutoring, I like to go hiking with my dog or running in the outdoors.
