The 13 plus common entrance exams are a set of entrance exams used by a number of independent secondary schools in the UK. The exams are set by the Independent Schools Examinations Board or ISEB. They cover a wide range of subjects and passing the common entrance is often a pre-requisite for year 9 entry at a number of UK independent schools, many of which will offer places based on 11+ pre-tests that are conditional on passing common entrance in year 8..
The 13 plus common entrance exam itself takes place in year 8, and usually contains a wider range of papers than the 11 plus. The following 3 papers are compulsory:
