Our Tutors & Process
Keystone Tutors are unique in that we employ over 60 full-time UK based tutors on an exclusive basis and also represent a highly select pool of freelance tutors. You tell us your needs and we will work to find a teacher that fits your specifications.
Safeguarding and Recruitment
Keystone is committed to protecting the welfare and wellbeing of both students and staff. At the outset of an assignment we will have a discussion with the school to ensure our tutors are familiar and compliant with the school’s safeguarding procedures. We follow safer recruitment as set out by the Department for Education guidelines. When recruiting and onboarding our tutors, we conduct all of the following:
- Enhanced DBS check
- Teacher Barred Checklist
- Two references (one of which is Professional)
- Right to work in the UK
- An interview (including teaching a portion of a lesson) with our Tutor Management Team
- International Checks (if a candidate has worked abroad within the last 5 years)
- Qualification Checks
- Safeguarding training

How do we select our tutors?
Keystone has one of the most rigorous selection criteria for tutors in the sector. Our tutors are dedicated professionals, who commit to regular training and ongoing professional development. For those schools who need it, we can limit our selection to those tutors with QTS. We will only put forward tutors who we believe have the sufficient capability and expertise to teach to the highest standards for each particular course. We will share full details of each tutor’s prior experience and it is incumbent upon the school to determine if that meets their requirements.
Replacing tutors?
When sourcing tutors for our school programs we use best endeavors to pick tutors who can commit to the full course. However, every now and again it is possible that a tutor will become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, we will look to replace the tutor with a suitably qualified alternative, approved by the school.

Finding the right tutor
for each child
Step 1: Detailed Consultation
Before we can help a student, we often need to spend a significant amount of time learning about the student's requirements. Most consultations are carried out over the phone or on a video call.
Step 2: Academic Assessment (optional)
Students sit our custom-made academic assessments to indicate their level in relation to their peers, and in order to identify suggested areas to work on. Parents also seek academic assessments for their children to determine their general strengths and weaknesses, and decide upon a set of objectives for the course of tuition.
Step 3: Tutor Selection Process
The selection of the tutor is an integral part of our process. Priding ourselves on how well we know the varying strengths of each tutor, we ensure that each decision is informed by the expectation of a successful match between the tutor and student.
Step 4: Regular Progress Monitoring
After the first lesson, one of our dedicated client managers will contact you to find out how the lesson went. Our client managers are always available at the end of the phone and they are frequently praised for their efficiency, dedication and responsiveness.
Step 5: Monthly Reporting & Feedback
Tutors submit a monthly report detailing the work done in the month; the successes and areas to work on; and the work for the coming month. Our regular, rigorous reporting is frequently praised by parents.

Meet the
Keystone Team
Since 2007, we have helped over 10,000 students fulfil their educational potential. Uniquely, Keystone exclusively employs over 50 full-time UK-based tutors and also represents a highly select pool of freelance tutors.
James is an experienced tutor who has been tutoring for over a decade. He has a first class degree in Comparative Literature from UCL. James tutors a variety of subjects and believes in a bespoke approach for each of his students.
Thomas is a committed full-time tutor. He specialises in Maths at all ages up to GCSE as well as English. At interview we were impressed by his measured and supportive approach.
Olly is an Oxford graduate and experienced tutor. He has a real passion for teaching as well as for writing, theatre and sport. Olly has taught over 6,700 hours with Keystone.
Stefan is a personable Biology and Chemistry tutor who taught throughout university. He has subsequently assisted students alongside his scientific research. His efficient teaching style helps students progress, at all levels.
Phillip is an experienced tutor having taught since 2007 when he was an undergraduate. He teaches Humanities across the age range. Phillip aims to develop initial curiosity in his students that later develops into a genuine interest for the subject.
Matt is a specialist A Level Politics tutor with over 30 years’ experience teaching. He helps students improve exam technique, with a strong focus on clear, analytical essay writing.
Thomas read Human, Social and Political Sciences and Geography at the University of Cambridge. He tutors History, Geography and English Literature from pre-GCSE level to Oxbridge admissions. He also has experience in research, consultancy and postgraduate study in Development Studies.
Le-My is an Oxford graduate with a great passion for languages and literature. She has considerable tutoring experience and teaches French as well as English, Maths and Mandarin. Le-My has supported 100 Keystone clients and taught over 2,300 hours.
Julian is a qualified English, History, and Law teacher with experience across a variety of age groups. He splits his time between tutoring and classroom teaching. Julian's approach is clear and flexible.
Noelle is an experienced tutor who has taught across the age range. Noelle hopes to instil a love of learning in her students and adapts lessons to each tutee's individual needs.
Matt is a qualified English teacher, who has a wealth of experience teaching in both the independent and state sector. He has a patient approach and aims to build confidence in order to encourage students to ask questions and actively engage in their own progress.
Kim is a dedicated Maths tutor who has over a decade of experience. She has worked in the classroom and now focuses on tutoring full time. Kim's approach is student-led, to ensure she is providing the best support for each child.
