I grew up in Yorkshire, curious about the world around me and with big football dreams. When I left home, I chose the scientific path so I could learn how things work at their most fundamental level. This led me to the University of Nottingham, where I earned a First Class Master’s degree in Chemistry. Captivated by science, I went on to pursue a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Oxford (where I have been researching new technologies for green energy production).

Throughout my doctoral studies, I developed a strong foundation in scientific communication. I’ve presented my research at academic conferences and translated complex ideas for school students during outreach events – experiences that taught me how to tailor my message to any audience. Whether explaining magnetic water-splitting to sixth formers or discussing frontier technologies with fellow researchers, I’ve learned how to make science both accessible and engaging.

Adaptability has been a defining trait across my career. From working in a care home for disabled adults to a quarry site for limestone mining, I’ve thrived in diverse environments and connected with people from all walks of life. I’m always seeking new skills and challenges, and my varied experiences have shaped me into a confident, empathetic person.

Passion, logic, and adaptability are the cornerstones of my teaching style.

I bring energy and enthusiasm to every lesson, creating an engaging atmosphere that encourages curiosity. I believe that when students feel excited about learning, they’re more willing to explore challenging ideas and ask deeper questions.

Logical thinking underpins my teaching. I break down convoluted scientific concepts into their fundamental components, then guide students in reconstructing them with clarity and confidence. This approach not only deepens their grasp of the material but also equips them to apply their knowledge flexibly in exam settings and beyond.

My lessons are highly adaptable – I tailor my approach to each student’s needs, using different media and methods that resonate with their learning style. Whether it’s visual aids, real-world analogies, or hands-on problem solving. I also build in space for open discussion, giving students time to wrestle with complex ideas and develop their own understanding.

Most of my spare time is spent rock climbing – a sport I love for its fusion of problem-solving and physical challenge. The highlights of my year are trips to outdoor bouldering locations, where the thrill of climbing meets the beauty of nature.

Football is my other passion. I’m a regular at Arsenal Women’s matches, and love the sense of community and energy in the crowd. I also follow the emotional rollercoaster that is Hull City Men’s—my childhood team—with loyal (if occasionally heartbroken) dedication.
