I have over 13 years of experience contributing to education across a wide range of roles. I have regularly taught at universities in UK, Europe and Asia, delivering lectures, leading group teaching sessions and training courses and supervising research projects at A-Level, undergraduate, Master’s and PhD levels. Earlier in my career, I focused on researching neurodiversity in children and supporting young people with special educational needs (SEN) in both school and extracurricular settings and continue to specialise in tutoring students with SEN.

For the past four years, I have worked as a private tutor, providing tailored tuition to learners of all ages and abilities. My current students include GCSE, iGCSE, A-Level, IB, and undergraduate learners in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. Additionally, I supervise a PhD student researching Environmental Chemistry and mentor two early-career scientists: a One Health graduate and a postdoctoral Biochemist.

Biography

I am a professional Scientist and Educator. My academic background includes a PhD in Biochemistry / Environmental Science (Manchester Metropolitan University, 2021), an MSc in Wild Animal Biology (Distinction and prize for 'Best Research Project', Royal Veterinary College, London, 2009) and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology (First Class Honours and prize for 'Best Dissertation', Goldsmiths, University of London, 2006). I also hold a qualification in ‘Teaching and Learning in Higher Education’ from the Royal Veterinary College, London (2025).

I’m a passionate scientist and educator with over 20 years of experience supporting learners of all ages and abilities, including:

• working in primary schools in UK

• supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) at a UK charity

• researching childhood autism in the UK and Kenya

• developing and delivering conservation education programs in the UK, Vietnam & Malaysia

• delivering lectures and leading small-group sessions at universities in UK, Europe and Asia

• supervising A-level, Undergraduate, Master’s and PhD research projects,

• mentoring early-career scientists

I’ve also studied otters for 16 years, in the wild and in the lab, and even authored a children’s book about them!

Approach to Tutoring

My tutoring approach is highly adaptable and student-centred. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate that every learner processes information differently, so I tailor my teaching style to suit each individual’s needs. I aim to create a supportive, engaging environment that fosters confidence and independent thinking. Drawing on my formal teacher training and interest in learning strategies, I use a mix of clear explanation, games and memory techniques to make learning both effective and enjoyable. I’m especially focused on helping students build lasting understanding and practical skills they can apply beyond the classroom.

When not tutoring

I work full-time as a tutor while also co-running a specialist consultancy focused on wildlife health monitoring and supporting conservation translocation programmes. Our small team of three contributes to conservation efforts through wildlife health assessments, disease surveillance and practical field support. I stay actively engaged with the scientific community as a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Biology, and I am on track to achieve Chartered status as a Chemist, Biologist, and Environmentalist by July 2026. I also lead a ‘Journal and Hot Topics’ club, facilitating discussions that foster critical thinking and keep participants up to date with current developments in environmental science.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, camping and spending time in nature. My schedule is flexible, allowing me to offer tutoring sessions at various times throughout the week, including evenings and weekends.
