I have tutored extensively over the last twenty years.
Outside of my Medical Science background I have a PGCE specialising in Advanced Biology and Secondary Science; I am also PG qualified in Nutritional Medicine.
I have worked in F/T teaching roles as well as having been a head of Biology for two years at an Independent college in London.
I also have experience as an examiner.
Subjects covered A level Biology/ IB Biology; IB ESS; Science, Maths and English at GCSE/IGCSE and all Common Entrance preparation (Verbal and non-verbal reasoning, English, Maths and Science at 11+ and 13+.)
Recent tutoring successes include student entry into St Pauls on scholarship, Eton on scholarship, Wycombe Abbey, Westminster, The Emanuel School, Dulwich, etc
Common entrance preparation to other top UK schools as well as plenty of IB Biology,IGCSE Sciences, Maths and English and A Level Biology.
I was born in London and raised in both London and Athens.
I attended Glendower Prep. school for Girls before going to Greece where I attended Campion International School and then TASIS.
In the U.K. my first degree was in Biomedical Science for which I attained a 2:1 and I then went on to medical school on the graduate entry program at SGHMS Uni of London. During this time I began tutoring to support my studies yet two years into my course I found my tutoring the most rewarding thing I was doing. I therefore decided to pursue a PGCE to formalise my teaching skills during which time I trained and taught at two U.K. state schools.
I spent a year teaching Science at Hampton Court House before being invited to teach Biology at Chelsea Independent College where I was soon made Head of Biology.
During my time there I was inundated with private tutoring requests and eventually through word of mouth referrals this became my full time work.
In the meantime personal circumstances lead me to take up an MSc at the University of Surrey in Nutritional Medicine following an online course in Disease Prevention and Nutritional Medicine with UCSF.
Tutoring has taken me overseas in recent years : to Zurich, Antibes, Athens and most recently Monaco.
I am happily married, mother to an amazing 23 year old daughter who is studying Mathematics , I am bilingual (English/Greek) with a good understanding of French and Spanish and I am passionate about great music.
As a tutor I tailor my knowledge and input to each individual student based on their needs. I feel strongly that an optimistic, 'you can do it' approach - alongside eliminating a student’s fear of particular topics by broaching them at the get-go and instilling good exam technique are all essential.
I really enjoy the journey that culminates in success when teaching one to one and the freedom it allows me teach in a way that is unlimited in its scope. This is not possible when teaching classes in a school.
My areas of expertise in tutoring are in 11+ prep for common entrance exams and for specific public school entrance and scholarship exams. I have helped students gain entrance to a host of excellent schools to include Eton, St Paul’s, Westminster, Wycombe Abbey etc and I have also helped students successfully prepare for some of the most demanding scholarship exams;
I am highly experienced at helping students looking to study Medicine or those professions allied to Medicine through GCSE/IGCSE preparation in all three Sciences and Biology at A level and via the IB route where I also teach both SL and HL Biology, ESS and the newest addition SEHS.
I am based in Weybridge, Surrey from where I undertake full time professional tutoring to students both locally in the U.K but also internationally;
When I’m not tutoring I spend my time with my family, travelling and pursuing great music on the international jazz circuit.
"Kate has not only helped me to understand the hardest topics in IB Biology HL and how to memorise the knowledge but she has also made me appreciate the subject. Thanks to her, I discovered a passion for biology that I previously was not aware of. We often say that students learn better and get better grades when they like the teacher. Kate is the proof that this is true. Unfortunately, this year we have not been able to prove out abilities during the end of year exams but I am sure that I would have performed really well thanks to Kate’s tutoring." (IB Biology Student)
"The lesson was great we will be having another one next week."
