I have over 10 years of classroom experience, teaching children from age 11 - 18. My particular focus has been on 3 areas, IB English Literature (Language A at Higher Level and Standard Level); GCSE English Literature and GCSE English Language (for which I have worked as an examiner).

As well as classroom teaching, I am used to working 1 to 1 with students in relation to all elements of these courses and at all levels of prior attainment.

I have a particular interest in Shakespeare and poetry.

Biography

I grew up in North West England and attended The Manchester Grammar School, where I achieved an A for English Literature at A level and A*s for GCSE English Literature and English Language. I then achieved a 2:1 in English Literature at University of Leeds, followed by obtaining a Masters in English and American Literature at University of Sussex, before studying to become a lawyer.

After education I worked as a solicitor in a top 50 UK law firm. I then retrained to be a teacher through Teach First and University of Exeter, where I obtained my PGCE in 2014. I have worked as a teacher since then, in both state and independent schools.

Outside the classroom, I led a school project on tackling misogyny, for which the school won awards with both Talk Education and Schools House.

Approach to Tutoring

My teaching style is to encourage, challenge and hopefully inspire each individual. I aim to spike curiosity, so that students are motivated to learn more and tackle challenging work. Lessons will be fun, targeted and interactive, with content adapted to suit each individual. I aim to have a strong rapport with students which enables them to feel supported enough to try new skills and learn from mistakes. The overall goal is for students to enjoy each session and make good progress.

When not tutoring

I teach 3 days a week. When not in the classroom or tutoring, I enjoy looking after my 2 young children, playing tennis and going for a run.
