About Michelle:

Experience

I have been a teacher of A level Economics and Business (AQA) for 30 Years in both State and Private schools. I have also been a tutor for 10 years tutoring both Edexcel and AQA boards using Teams. I am a Team lead examiner for Paper 1 of the AQA Economics board as well as an examiner for Pearson BTEC Level 3 Finance.

Throughout my career I have successfully supported students with applications to Oxford and Cambridge in respect of writing personal statements and preparing them for mock interviews. I have also supported students through Degree Apprenticeship programmes for notable financial companies in London. I have also been an EPQ mentor when students have chosen to write their Extended Project in an economics context.

My Team Leader role with AQA involves managing a team of examiners in terms of quality control and standardisation of graded assessments as well as supporting new examiners.

During my role as Head of Department I have delivered training to colleagues in respect of differentiation in the classroom with an aim to improve attainment across a range of student abilities.

Biography

After completing my A levels in German, French and Business, I went on to study Business Economics at Nottingham Trent University where I achieved a BA with Honours. Having made the decision to teach I then went on to attain a post graduate PGCE in Secondary Education at Sheffield Hallam University. Since then I have accumulated 30 years experience of teaching and managing an Economics and Business Department in a variety of state and independent schools alongside 10 years of private tutoring. I currently teach in a selective school in Surrey whilst working freelance for a variety of exam boards including AQA and Edexcel.

Approach to Tutoring

As a PGCE qualified teacher and tutor I have a experience of a wide range experience teaching students with varying abilities and goals, whether that be entrance into Russell Group Universities or adding value to student outcomes. I am able to bring the subject to life using real world examples and regularly assess student ability with integrated exam practice. Lessons are scaffolded to support student ability at all levels with the aim of improving confidence over time.

When not tutoring

I teach part-time at St George's College and tutor for the remainder of the week. During the summer term I Team Lead for AQA and also freelance contract work for AQA as an Economics subject specialist. Such work has included A Level Assessments for international students to award qualification grades when students have been unable to sit formal examinations.

In my spare time I enjoy cross country running and yoga.
