I have completed Keystone’s in depth 7+/8+ and 11+ training programmes and have many resources to help students with their studies. I can help students work towards specific exams and goals as well as providing confidence boosts in subjects and supporting students with their ongoing learning.
I am skilled in interview preparation, having worked as a Coach on a training programme supporting young people into education or employment. I offered 1-1 and group coaching, supporting those facing low confidence and anxiety. I ran mock interview sessions on a regular basis; I am experienced in helping young people perform well under pressure.
Whilst at University, I delivered workshops and Drama lessons in schools as part of my Theatre in Education modules. I also studied a teaching module where I developed my understanding and practise of different teaching styles, taught lessons and received feedback on my teaching abilities.
I also volunteered at a homework club and worked 1-1 with pupils with learning difficulties. I helped them to implement strategies to understand and carry out their work to the required standard.
My years of experience working with children and young people in a variety of settings allow me to effectively adapt my tutoring approach to each individual I work with.
I grew up in Hampshire, where I first developed a love for the Performing Arts. I balanced dance, singing and acting lessons alongside my studies to achieve 7A*s and 5As at GCSE. I combined my passions for the Arts and academia to study Drama, Performing Arts and English Literature at A-Level, achieving A*AA. I then decided to return to education from a different perspective - taking theatre in education performances into schools across the UK as part of a professional theatre company.
I went on to study Drama at Exeter University and tried to fit in some travelling wherever possible. I backpacked through New Zealand and spent 3 months working with children at Camp America in California, as well as visiting as many European countries as I could tick off. I passionately believe that it is possible to both work hard and pursue a sense of adventure - I graduated with a first class Undergraduate degree in 2017.
After graduating, I began working as a Coach for the charity Resurgo, on an employment training programme for 16-24-year olds. Here, I trained young people in skills such as confidence, interview skills and application writing. I delivered three-hour group training sessions and 1-1s each day. I worked with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and loved meeting new individuals, developing long-term relationships with them. I loved to see how confidence levels soared as a result of the training and the 1-1 investment.
I am passionate about inspiring and supporting young people to succeed. I am motivated by helping them realise their potential and desire to see their academic aspirations become a reality.
I love building rapport with each pupil, allowing them to relax and be themselves. I encourage and motivate naturally, which in the past has led to strong relationships where individuals speak honestly with me about their worries or hopes for the future.
The 1-1 setting allows me to shape my communication style and the content around individual strengths, weaknesses and needs.
I understand the importance of academic study alongside personal growth; I have helped many young people to develop their confidence and ability to perform under pressure.
What I do when I am not tutoring
When I am not tutoring, you’ll find me on my mat! I love Pilates and yoga and am training to become a qualified Pilates teacher. I love the effect that fresh air and exercise has on mental and physical wellbeing. On the weekends, I’ll often be exploring the outdoors. I love hiking in the countryside or seeking out a spot with a great view where I can sit and read.
I'm happily married and am working on learning my husband's first language - Afrikaans. We love to host friends for dinner or a 'braai' (BBQ) in the garden, even when the British weather is sub-ideal!
"Your online lessons are so advanced; they are better than the lessons my daughter has in person!" (Father of a Y6 student)
"Also, my son is really enjoying his sessions with Naomi and he is learning so much from her. She is excellent at teaching him the techniques needed for reading comprehension." (Mother of year 7 student)
"My daughter definitely found the two online interview sessions with Naomi useful, Naomi gave her some valuable advice e.g. reminding her not to swing her chair, play with her hair, use PEE skills to come up with answers to questions. I believe the two interview sessions with Naomi was a good “warm up exercise” for my daughter before the actual interview yesterday. Thanks!” (Mother of 11+ student in Hong Kong)
'My daughter really enjoyed the lesson. I am sure you will do a brilliant job of helping boost her in these areas. Wonderful start. We are delighted you are tutoring her.' (Father of 13+ student, commenting after his daughter's first lesson.)
'I really enjoy your lessons! I am using and applying everything we learn in my lessons at school." (13+ student)
'I've just sent you a copy of X's last English test. He is over the moon with his grade! Only two kids in his class, including him, actually passed the test. He is very proud to have passed." (Mother of year 7 student)
‘Naomi is a great coach, she really supported me when I was down and adapted to every student which was caring. I appreciated her attitude and work ethic.’ Vanessa, Spear Programme Trainee
‘Naomi always brought a positive energy to each session and possessed the ability to build strong rapports with people of various backgrounds and ages. I found her to be compassionate, professional and open minded. I had fairly low self-confidence when joining the course and Naomi encouraged me to see things in a different perspective, reach my full potential and motivated me to get back on track. It was very refreshing to have Naomi as a coach and I believe other students would benefit from her presence.’ Cleo, Spear Programme Trainee
‘Naomi helped me a lot during my time at Spear, it was thanks to her that I was able to secure a job after over a year of unemployment. There was never a day where she was anything apart from positive and encouraging and I can’t thank her enough.’ Iqbal, Spear Programme Trainee
‘Naomi is very kind, caring and patient with her peers and colleagues. She is very attentive and helped me strive to get out of my comfort zone and enable my development and growth which I am forever grateful for. She has outstanding professionalism and dedication towards excellence.’ Sachin, Spear Programme Trainee
