Joining Keystone as a Professional Tutor in August 2020, I went through a rigorous training programme and have also completed in depth 11+ and 7+/8+ courses. I have an array of resources to help students with their studies. I can help students work towards specific exams and goals, as well as providing confidence boosts in subjects and supporting students with their ongoing learning.
I am skilled in interview preparation, having delivered over 300 hours of 1-1 training and mock interviews before starting work at Keystone. For Keystone, I have clocked up over …. Hours of interview training, helping students to prepare for school entrance interviews.
Whilst at University, I delivered workshops and Drama lessons in schools as part of my Theatre in Education modules. I also studied a teaching module where I developed my understanding and practice of different teaching styles, taught lessons and received feedback on my teaching abilities. I also volunteered at a homework club and worked 1-1 with pupils. I helped them to implement strategies to understand and carry out their work to the required standard.
My years of experience working with children and young people in a variety of settings allow me to effectively adapt my tutoring approach to each individual I work with.
I grew up in Hampshire, where I excelled academically and achieved 7A*s and 5As at GCSE. I went on to study Drama, Performing Arts and English Literature at A-Level also securing top grades: A*AA. I developed a love for the arts which led me to study Drama at Exeter University, gaining a first-class degree.
During my studies, I started building up my experience with children of all ages by taking theatre into schools and spending 3 months looking after 7-14 year olds at Camp America in California.
After graduating, I began working as a Coach for the charity Resurgo, on an employment training programme for 16-24-year olds. Here, I trained young people in skills such as confidence, interview skills and application writing. I delivered three-hour group training sessions and 1-1s each day. I worked with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds. I loved meeting new individuals; developing long-term relationships and seeing how confidence levels soared as a result of the 1-1 investment.
Now living outside of London, I predominantly teach online. I use Conceptboard to ensure that my lessons are interactive and collaborative. When teaching English, I create individual vocabulary documents and reading logs for each pupil. We use these to record and discuss new words that they come across inside and outside of lessons, and I encourage them to actively share their opinions on the books they are reading.
I love building rapport with each student, allowing them to relax and be themselves. I encourage and motivate naturally, which in the past has led to strong relationships where individuals speak honestly with me about their worries or hopes for the future.
I understand the importance of academic study alongside personal growth; I have helped many young people to develop their confidence and ability to perform under pressure, whilst also seeing their academic aspirations become a reality.
I am a qualified Pilates teacher and teach group and 1-1- classes online and in person.
I love the effect that fresh air and exercise has on mental and physical wellbeing. At the weekend, I’ll often be exploring the outdoors. I love hiking in the countryside or seeking out a spot with a great view where I can sit and read.
My husband and I have a little yellow campervan that we named 'Sonny'. We love to spend the weekend taking it on many adventures!
"Your online lessons are so advanced; they are better than the lessons my daughter has in person!" (Father of a Y6 student)
"Also, my son is really enjoying his sessions with Naomi and he is learning so much from her. She is excellent at teaching him the techniques needed for reading comprehension." (Mother of year 7 student)
"My daughter definitely found the two online interview sessions with Naomi useful, Naomi gave her some valuable advice e.g. reminding her not to swing her chair, play with her hair, use PEE skills to come up with answers to questions. I believe the two interview sessions with Naomi was a good “warm up exercise” for my daughter before the actual interview yesterday. Thanks!” (Mother of 11+ student in Hong Kong)
'I have two students being taught by Naomi. They are very different in age and in personality. Naomi has conquered both of them from the other side of the screen! Their school teachers say that both have grown in confidence and I am vey grateful for this. I sincerely hope she keeps supporting our family.' (Mother of year 4 and year 8 students)
'X got her end of year report today. The teacher commented that she was working above the expected standard in reading/comprehension and above the expected standard in grammar. She completed assessments last week at school. She told me she learnt the majority of things from you- so thank you!' (Mother of 11+ student)
'My daughter really enjoyed the lesson. I am sure you will do a brilliant job of helping boost her in these areas. Wonderful start. We are delighted you are tutoring her.' (Father of year 8 student, commenting after his daughter's first lesson.)
'Thank you for all of your support so far! I believe that thanks to your OVERWHELMING help, I was able to give 200% in my exam. I really just want to thank you for all of the help, education, support and everything else you have provided to me!'' (13+ student)
'I've just sent you a copy of X's last English test. He is over the moon with his grade! Only two kids in his class, including him, actually passed the test. He is very proud to have passed.'' (Mother of year 7 student)
''Thank you very much for always encouraging X. She told me that working with you is good fun and you are always very encouraging and nice, yet firm and fair!'' (Mother of 13+ student)
''You clearly are a very dedicated and professional teacher - I can’t think of many people who would make the extra effort that you do in order to give X every conceivable help to pass these exams! Thank you very much indeed for all the wonderful things that you have taught X and for all the efforts you have made on her behalf. We really are very thankful and have been very impressed by you.'' (Father of 13+ student)
''As my parents have told you, I have passed the exam for CLC! I know that I would not have been able to do it without your help! I am so grateful to have a tutor like you! Once again, thank you so much for teaching me countless things that I was always unsure about and thank you for helping me get into my dream school!'' (13+ student)
''Her English has improved a lot since you took over. I am very grateful. Most importantly, she enjoys English so much more!'' (Mother of 13+ student)
‘Naomi is a great coach, she really supported me when I was down and adapted to every student which was caring. I appreciated her attitude and work ethic.’ Vanessa, Spear Programme Trainee
‘Naomi always brought a positive energy to each session and possessed the ability to build strong rapports with people of various backgrounds and ages. I found her to be compassionate, professional and open minded. I had fairly low self-confidence when joining the course and Naomi encouraged me to see things in a different perspective, reach my full potential and motivated me to get back on track. It was very refreshing to have Naomi as a coach and I believe other students would benefit from her presence.’ Cleo, Spear Programme Trainee
‘Naomi helped me a lot during my time at Spear, it was thanks to her that I was able to secure a job after over a year of unemployment. There was never a day where she was anything apart from positive and encouraging and I can’t thank her enough.’ Iqbal, Spear Programme Trainee
‘Naomi is very kind, caring and patient with her peers and colleagues. She is very attentive and helped me strive to get out of my comfort zone and enable my development and growth which I am forever grateful for.
