I have extensive experience preparing students for 7+, 8+, 11+, and 13+ school entrance examinations, including those for Harrow School and other competitive selective schools. I focus on:
Creative writing: Structure, technique, and exam tactics to help students stand out.
Comprehension: Developing critical reading skills and the ability to analyse texts under timed conditions.
Exam strategy: Time management, planning, and understanding what examiners are looking for.
Confidence building: Supporting students to feel calm, prepared, and ready to perform on the day.
I have a strong track record of helping students gain places at top UK schools and consistently exceed their target grades.
I am a fully qualified English teacher with QTS and an MA TESOL from the University of Birmingham. I have over 10 years of experience teaching English online and in person, specialising in exam preparation for IGCSE, IELTS, A-Level, and UK school entrance exams including 11+, 13+, and competitive selective schools like Harrow. I am passionate about helping students build confidence, master exam technique, and achieve their academic goals. I take a patient, student-led approach and enjoy making learning engaging and accessible for every student.
“We have been working with Elizabeth for the past two years. She has supported a wide range of learners with varying abilities, from beginner ESOL to A-Level. She is always flexible in her approach to meet individual needs, punctual and prompt in responding to queries. She is a valued tutor and will make a positive impact on all students.”
“Elizabeth’s teaching style is engaging and highly adaptive to my daughter’s needs. She creates a relaxed and supportive learning atmosphere, which helps my daughter feel confident and motivated. We’ve seen significant and steady improvement in her performance. Her ability to tailor lessons and guide my daughter step by step has made a clear difference. We are truly grateful for her dedication and excellent teaching!”
“We were truly impressed and very happy with the tutoring sessions our child had with Elizabeth. His writing improved remarkably in structure, vocabulary, confidence and creativity. Most of all, he started to love creative writing and genuinely enjoy the process. Elizabeth made each session engaging and enjoyable while maintaining high academic standards. We greatly appreciated her knowledge, patience and encouragement.”
“He recently ranked first in his ESL homework in class, and his school teacher gave him special praise — such a lovely achievement! I know this progress is very much down to your support and teaching, so thank you as always. His mum is also very grateful for all your help. Really appreciate your hard work!”
Having taught a great number of students across many years, I have found that each one learns and makes sense of English in their own particular way. As such, I always take the time to understand how a student thinks before deciding how to teach them. Some respond best to structure and repetition, others to discussion and creativity, and many need a blend of both.
I consider myself calm, patient, and encouraging, but also focused and results driven. I set high expectations and I support students to meet them. I break complex skills down into clear, manageable steps so that progress feels achievable rather than overwhelming.
I place strong emphasis on exam technique, mark scheme precision, and building genuine confidence. My aim is not just to get a student through their next assessment, but to give them skills they can carry into any exam, essay, or argument they face.
Above all, I want every student to feel capable and to see their own progress. When a student starts to believe in themselves, the results follow.
I am fully committed to a career in teaching and education.
Currently, I am looking to expand my private tutoring work further and am dedicated to building long-term relationships with students and families. I have a stable, predictable schedule and can confidently commit to my clients. I am passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals and am excited about the opportunity to grow my practice.
