“Our son had French lessons with Jack and absolutely loved them. Jack was incredibly patient, and his teaching approach worked wonderfully for him. Jack managed to bring out the best in him. Top marks-thank you!”

I have a wealth of experience improving outcomes for GCSE and A-Level German learners.

I am a current Examiner for the German GCSE Writing Exam, and could help your tutees achieve the 'inside line' for the reformed GCSE.

Here is a summary of my last 10 years experience:

Hummersknott Academy in Darlington
· Subject Leader - German
· Boosted language take-up and profile of German, successful liaison with students parents and staff to raise attainment and profile of German.

SFX School in Richmond
· Subject Leader - MFL.
· Furthered my ability to think on my feet and challenge and engage.

Trinity Catholic College in Middlesbrough
· Subject Leader - MFL.
· Helped take the department to the top 20% of Languages State School languages departments nationally and ensured the continuation of Languages A-Levels at Sixth Form.

With over 20 years of experience in language education, I am passionate about empowering students to achieve their fullest potential in mastering the German language. As a dedicated German Language Expert (OFSTED Outstanding), I specialise in curriculum development and innovative teaching methodologies tailored to the needs of GCSE candidates.

As a department leader, I improved outcomes to such an extent that our MFL Department was operating in the top twenty percent of state schools nationally.

“We speak German at home, and whilst my son has super word level retention, he was lacking confidence in his reading, writing and grammar. Jack engages really well with my son, he mixes in the serious and important stuff (it is German, after all!) with fun, tailors and adapts the lesson to him, and really motivates him. I wish my language teachers had been as excellent and inspiring as Jack.”

“Jack was not only my German GCSE and A-level teacher but also a mentor who truly inspired my passion for the language. His teaching style made even the most difficult concepts feel simple and enjoyable, and his knowledge of German is outstanding. With his support, I achieved an A* at GCSE and a C at A-level, which was fantastic considering I was balancing three other A-levels alongside German.”
Parent
“My daughter was struggling with her German GCSE and was predicted to achieve a 4 at best. We got Jack to help her, and after roughly 4 months, my daughter achieved a 6 for her German GCSE. Jack was extremely personable and her confidence in the language improved immensely. We would recommend Jack to anyone that needs assistance with their studies.”

Within the first couple of lessons with me I would:

  • Identify the gaps in your child’s learning and find what level they are currently on
  • fill in those gaps in a way that makes sense to them (and you) without using books and study guides (which don’t work for them)
  • assess the progress they made
  • share my insider tips from the examiner's perspective to get the results they are capable of in the reformed GCSE

Due to the tragic decline of German Teaching in State Schools in the UK I have recently moved into teaching English to special needs students.

I currently teach English and Maths to secondary school children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health problems. Often my students come from the most deprived backgrounds. Each has an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and often some form additional SEND need. For example Dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, PDA. Whilst I love working with my current students, I am super keen to continue to utilise my skills and exam expertise to tutor GCSE German students online.

Teaching German is my one true passion and under the old maxim ''if you don't use it, you lose it...''
