Alexandra is a qualified Maths teacher who has been teaching since 2011. In 2026, she left full time teaching and is focussing on tutoring. Alexandra has taught students of all abilities at secondary level.

For past 13 years I have been teaching Mathematics at Putney High School, including IGCSE, FSMQ and A level (both Pure and Applied) with great success. I have taught students across the full spectrum of the school's ability profile, supporting and motivating girls to achieve their best, whether that is a grade 7 at GCSE or an A* at A Level. As well as teaching in a classroom setting I have supported students in a one to one setting in school clinics.

I have significant experience of pastoral support in my Head of Year role, encouraging students through the simultaneous challenge of personal difficulties (mental health, bereavement and more) and academic stress, to sit their exams and thrive.

Biography

-Since 2013 I have been teaching Mathematics at Putney High School, London, SW15, a selective, independent, high performing girls' school. I have been Head of Year 12/13 for over 5 years.

- 2011 to 2013 -Previously I taught at The Heathlands, a mixed comprehensive in Hounslow achieving QTS.

-2010 to 2011 - PGCE at St. Mary's Twickenham, following a 6 month Maths Enhancement Course jointly run by Roehampton/Kingston Universities.

-1998 to 2010 - career break -stay at home mother

1990 to 1998 - chartered surveyor working in commercial property management and rent reviews.

Approach to Tutoring

My initial approach is to determine whether students have the base skills required, and then develop a set of prioritised focuses. I look to support understanding, application, attention to detail and confidence depending on the needs of the individual. Pace and style of sessions will vary with need. I am keen to help students work on modelling and harder problem solving questions, which may have more text or diagrams, to break them down into accessible chunks. I like to encourage the improvement of structure of solutions to ensure they are easy to follow and maximise opportunity for gaining marks.

When not tutoring

I have recently left teaching full time at Putney High School. I now intend to tutor part time up to 5 days per week. Beyond work I enjoy cooking, walking, travelling and spending time with my family.
