I've taught full time since February 2021. I've completely homeschooled the full GCSE and A level syllabuses for Maths and Physics. I've also covered A level Further Maths; GCSE Chemistry; 13+ Maths and Science; 16+ Maths, Physics, and Chemistry; NSAA, PAT, MAT, TMUA, Oxbridge interviews, Imperial Interviews, and personal statements. My teaching is online, and I have full textbooks for GCSE Chemistry, Physics, and Maths, and A level Physics, Maths and Further Maths. I've helped students get into Eton College, Trinity College Cambridge, Robinson College Cambridge, and more.
I went to St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School, achieving 6 A*s at A-level in 2012. I started teaching with swimming when I was 13, first starting volunteering with children with learning difficulties, then getting a qualification and paid weekend work. I then went to University of Cambridge, graduating in 2016 with a First in Materials Science BA, multiple prizes for excellence, then getting my MSci. I worked in JPMorgan 2016-2018, then moved to New York to work for sales for a tech startup April 2019-June 2020. I moved back to the UK in December 2020 to pursue a career as a therapist, and I started tutoring to support my part time studies for that. I now have my foundation certificate in therapy, but I decided to stick with full time tutoring, which I've done since February 2021.
“As a girl doing maths and further maths (and going to study a male-dominated subject at uni) there is a lot of pressure to perform well, as there are several stereotypes of women in STEM that undermine girls’ (including myself’s) confidence. Patrick is happy to devote time to talk to me and help me find the root of any insecurities I feel in my abilities, so that I can become more confident with myself.”
“Patrick tutors maths and science for our three boys. All three are very different and Patrick is able to adjust his teaching style accordingly. As he makes maths fun, it triggers our boys to do more maths exercises. Patrick helped them get the maximum grade in maths and to help them on the different levels: understanding of the maths, skill practice, and exam technique.”
“Patrick has been instrumental in helping my son. His teaching style is effective and engaging, and he has a knack for explaining complex concepts in a way that is easy for students to understand. Moreover, he is a genuinely nice person who takes a personal interest in his students' success. He has always been punctual, professional, and reliable. I have recommended Patrick to at least two more friends of ours, and they have also been very satisfied with his services. I thoroughly recommend him for any STEM subjects.”
“Patrick's tailored approach to each student's needs was remarkable, as he was able to push when necessary and adjust tactics as needed with his calm and level-headed demeanour. His unique ability to delve deeply into subjects resulted in a profound understanding of the material. As a result, I was able to effortlessly achieve three GCSEs and two A levels, and I am immensely grateful for his guidance. His mentorship has been invaluable, and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking guidance in academic pursuits.”
I bring a lot of energy and personality into sessions. I'm an extrovert and try to make sessions as engaging as possible by keeping it socially engaging as well as intellectually stimulating. I get a sense of a student's personality and meet them where they are, whether that means me taking a more formal approach or a more relaxed one. While I prefer relaxed learning environments to keep students as personally settled as possible, I don't sacrifice academic standards. I am nurturing but demanding. I explain using metaphors to draw on their existing understanding, tying in any interests or hobbies where relevant. I also use the Socratic method, asking a lot of questions rather than telling them the answer, so that they absorb not just the answers but the process for arriving at them.
Full time tutoring for the forseeable future. I find it's a really good blend of IQ and EQ, getting to use my personality and emotional skills from therapy training to produce strong relationships, while using the IQ to really get students to understand the material. I'm a keen diarist, and the plan for the next few years is to write and publish a memoir, which the tutoring lifestyle really supports. I play the violin in an amateur classical orchestra and a musical theatre orchestra.
