I have over 8 years’ experience as a private tutor. I have tutored both in-person as well as online and have developed a wealth of resources and techniques to engage students online. I have tutored students of all ages and levels in Maths, English, EFL, French and Mandarin.
My past students hail from all corners of the globe, including but not limited to: the UK, China, India, France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia and the USA.
Tutoring aside, I offer advice and mentorship to Oxbridge applicants. I offer guidance on their personal statements, help students prepare for Oxbridge admissions exams (notably the MLAT and the MMLAA) and conduct mock interviews.
I was born and brought up in London, where I attended both a British and a Chinese school, so I am completely bilingual in Mandarin and English.
I attended Clapton Girls' Academy, where I studied A-Levels in French, English Literature, Economics, and Maths. I later became the first student in my school to be admitted to the University of Oxford, where I pursued my passion for languages and literature. I studied for a BA in French & Italian, specialising in post-French Revolution literature, and Italian Renaissance literature.
Throughout my A-Levels and my degree, I tutored in English, Maths, French and Mandarin. Teaching has always brought me immense joy, and I find it to be an incredibly rewarding use of my time. Thus, after graduating, I took up a position as a Professional Tutor with Keystone. I have worked with students from schools including Eton, Harrow, Westminster, St Paul's, St Paul's Girls' School, Cheltenham Ladies College, Wycombe Abbey, Oundle, Sevenoaks and Rugby.
My personal approach is to assist students in reaching solutions independently, rather than spoon-feeding them ideas and answers. Alongside this, I always encourage students to make links between newly learnt ideas and things that they already know; doing so allows for learning that is both long-lasting and transferable.
I appreciate that no two students are the same - I therefore always tailor my lessons to the unique learning style of the student. I find that doing so results in learning that is more effective (as well as more enjoyable!).
Lastly, as a tutor, and as a person, I pride myself on my friendliness, which I believe to be just as important a trait as any. My warm and supportive demeanour means that students always feel completely at ease, which in turn develops a classroom environment that is most conducive to learning.
Outside of tutoring, I love playing football. I have been kicking a ball since I was a toddler, and the highlight of my footballing career was playing midfield for the Oxford Women’s Football Club. When not running around on the pitch, I love running outdoors. I ran my first half-marathon a few years ago, and have had the half-marathon itch ever since!
''She was amazing amazing, [my daughter] loved her.'' (Mother of a GCSE French student)
''[Our daughter] is loving your lessons and you have managed to restore her love of learning Chinese in just 2 lessons!'' (Mother of a GCSE Mandarin student)
''Le-My is the best French teacher I've ever had. In a matter of weeks of lessons with her I was able to do what would normally take a couple of years. She's also a really nice person and I'm glad to have met her. Very happy that I had my lessons with her, if I went back in time I'd do them all over again. Thank you again for everything you've done for me!'' (A-Level French student & Oxford applicant)
''I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Le-My as a French tutor after her excellent support for our daughter during her final A-level year. Le-My quickly developed a positive rapport and her enthusiasm and flexibility was highly valuable during a difficult period of online schooling. Sessions were delivered in a very organised and efficient manner, and were fun and engaging whilst always stretching our daughter who went on to achieve an A* grade.'' (Mother of an A-Level French student)
''Firstly, we can’t speak highly enough of the quality and effectiveness of Le-My. Each session has been very rich with guidance. Le-My has provided detailed, individualised assistance, including the provision of extra exercises, and providing marking and feedback for work submitted between sessions. We think [our daughter] is a great judge of character and teaching ability and she has felt at ease and in awe of Le-My’s talent. Le-My has gone over and above what we and [our daughter] expected. She is very professional, dynamic and enthusiastic in her approach to teaching, learning and how to maximise the benefits of tutorials with additional pointers before and after sessions. She is worth her weight in gold.'' (Parents of an Oxford applicant)
''Le-My is an amazing language tutor. She taught my teenage son through his French GCSE. She boosted his grade by at least 2 levels. She gave him confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. She is totally professional and positive in her attitude. 100% recommend. Any student is lucky to have her!'' (Mother of a GCSE French student)
''Le-My Dang is very kind and professional. We feel very relieved to know that [our son] is having adequate support.'' (Mother of a Year 8 French student)
''Le-My has been working with my Y8 son every week for nearly a year now, and we are so happy that we found her - we could not have met anyone more perfect to work with him. He’s at a school where lessons are fast-paced and with high expectations, so we were looking for someone to ensure that he keeps on top of all the vocab and grammar. Le-My is not only brilliantly efficient, calm, organised and precise but also friendly, kind, enthusiastic and cheerful, which my son appreciates - he always looks forward to his lessons with her. From my point of view, I trust totally that between them they are covering everything thoroughly, and so French is one subject where I don’t have to ask him if he’s up to date with homework and revision for tests!'' (Mother of a Year 8 French student)
