I am an Oxford-educated professional with a decade of experience in leadership, teaching, mentoring, and learning across three countries. My parents emigrated to the UK from Hong Kong at an early age, and were the first in their families to attend university. They instilled within me from an early age a deep appreciation of the importance of education.

I attended The Lady Eleanor Holles School in London, where I achieved eleven A*s at GCSE and A*A*AA at A Level in Classical Greek, Latin, English Literature, and German.

I then read Classics and English at Oriel College, Oxford, graduating with upper second class honours.

After Oxford, I spent a semester in Vienna teaching English to secondary-aged pupils. Thereafter, I joined the Civil Service Fast Stream, the UK government’s flagship graduate leadership programme, where I spent seven years working on some of the most complex policy challenges of our time, represented the UK at international conferences, and led high-performing teams.

More recently, I took a career break (sabbatical) in May 2024 and left London in June 2024 to spend two years at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York studying acting, for my artistic and personal development. This time away from London helped me to re-focus on what I really wanted out of my career and led me to decide to pursue tutoring as my profession. I am now back in London and committed to bringing this full range of experience to my work with my students.

My academic background in Classics and English, combined with seven years in the civil service and two years of intensive acting training in New York, has given me an uniquely broad set of tools to draw on in a tutoring environment. I am patient, perceptive, and deeply committed to getting the best out of every student I work with.

From my civil service career, I learned that the aspect of my work that I found most rewarding was the one-to-one development of my staff. I successfully supported three of my staff members to secure promotions through consistently giving them challenging tasks to build their capability, providing feedback on their written applications, and coaching them through mock interview questions. Watching someone grow in confidence and capability through sustained, targeted support is what I enjoy most of all.

As a tutor, I am committed to getting to know each student individually so I can tailor their learning experience to their strengths, and further build on their areas for growth and development. This includes, but is not limited to, their learning style, their relationship with the subject, and what they are hoping to achieve. My approach is structured but responsive, and I adapt my methods to what works for each person rather than applying a fixed template.

In addition to my passion for education, I am a working writer and actor. I am currently writing my first full-length play while balancing auditions (mostly recorded remotely) and rehearsals. When I’m not tutoring, acting, or writing, I enjoy going to the opera and ballet, and spending time with my family.
