I have over 4 years of teaching experience and have worked with over 40 students, ranging in age. I have taught online and in-person, in a large classroom setting and 1:1. The age ranges and subjects I have taught have also varied, from primary school children up to A-level.
Subjects I have previously tutored in are English, Mathematics, Computing, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Latin, Electronics, UKCAT, BMAT and medical school interview preparation. These subjects have been across multiple exam boards, giving me insight into various question types. I have also given a series of wider talks and workshops to support students in their career and university choices.
I was born in Lahore, Pakistan in 1998 and my family immigrated to Glasgow when I was 2 years old. Shortly after, we moved to Surrey and then finally to West Sussex where I completed the majority of my schooling. My mixed cultural upbringing has allowed me to fluently speak in 4 languages: Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and of course, English.
Having finished my unconventional A-levels of Biology, Chemistry, Latin and Electronics, I went straight from school to the University of Exeter to study Medicine. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at medical school so far and look forward to becoming a practising physician. Alongside Medicine I have also completed a MSc in Extreme Medicine which covers the practice of medicine in austere environments such as deserts, jungles, polar regions and space. During this time alongside my studies I have been tutoring which has allowed me to have over 4 years of experience.
My approach to teaching is one of adapting and personalising the lesson to the needs and learning style of the student. I have experience with teaching using a variety of mediums and pedagogical methods. This allows me to cater to each student to best support their learning. I cultivate a judgement free learning zone where students are comfortable to try new ideas and answers without fear of failure. I prioritise patience in tutoring as I fully understand and sympathise with the difficulty one might have when grappling with a new topic or longstanding problem. This then allows the student room to grow.
I believe that when students are taught by someone genuinely passionate about the subject, they get inspired. This inspiration then drives interest and builds a genuine curiosity which manifests in better engagement and enjoyment during learning. I am very passionate about the subjects I teach and am keen to share this enthusiasm with students.
I am currently studying my intercalated MSc in Extreme Medicine. Next year I plan to finish my final year of Medicine and continue onto foundation training as a junior doctor.
Outside of this, I enjoy debating, sport, cooking, art as well as creating/playing video and table-top board games.
''I spent two months with Mirza to prepare for my A level Chemistry exams. He is a brilliant teacher and is able to provide excellently structured, organised, and focused lessons. He helped me massively improve my knowledge and understanding of challenging topics in A level Chemistry and guided me through exam and revision techniques. Valuable, detailed and very insightful feedback given after each lesson. Tremendously increased my confidence going into my exams. Highly recommend to all students.'' (A Level Chemistry Student)
