I have extensive teaching experience, having worked as a private tutor for the past ten years. I have particular expertise with the school entrance exams. I have successfully tutored students for leading co-educational and boarding schools including St Paul’s Boys, Westminster, Wimbledon High and Eton as well as top girls’ independent schools: Godolphin and Latymer, St Paul’s Girls and Francis Holland. I have prepared students for these exams via one-to-one tutoring sessions as well as in group settings, having run three 11+ revision courses. I have also prepared students taking their exams in year 8 for occasional places at Sevenoaks, St Paul’s Girls, Goldolphin and Latymer and Cheltenham Ladies’ College. With older years my tutoring has focused on the GCSE and A-Level exams, and I have helped a number of students secure top A and A* grades across a range of different exam boards and specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Pre-U) in English and Religious Studies. I have also helped a number of Oxbridge candidates in English and Theology, covering the ELAT exam and interview technique.

Biography

I grew up in Cheltenham where I took my GCSE’s and A-Level’s at the Cheltenham Ladies’ College. After leaving school I went to study Theology at the University of Oxford for which I received a First-Class degree and was awarded an Exhibition in my second year. Upon graduating I worked briefly in the arts, before completing an MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art. I went on to pursue interdisciplinary research for my AHRC-funded PhD which explored the way in which spirituality influenced art and literature in the early 20th century. I completed my PhD between the Royal College of Art and the University of Cambridge and for two years, alongside my research, I taught English at Cambridge to undergraduate students. I have been working as tutor since completing my undergraduate degree and have also begun working as a teacher in an independent school in London.

Approach to Tutoring

I am a passionate educator and employ an empathetic approach to learning. Through practice I have learnt how crucial it is for the tutor to tailor their approach to fit the unique educational needs of each student. Having worked in education for the past ten years, I have devised a range of imaginative and creative learning strategies. It is crucial for me to establish a rapport with each student that I teach and find that this is key to help them develop a sense of confidence in their academic capability.

When not tutoring

I am currently working as a teacher in a private school in London. In my free time I enjoy reading, painting and visiting art galleries.
