My journey began with a first class degree in Applied Chemistry, followed by doctoral research in Organic Chemistry at the University of Warwick and a postdoctoral fellowship that deepened my expertise in the field. I later completed a PGCE in Chemistry at the University of Birmingham, which launched my path into teaching.

Alongside my academic training, I gained early classroom experience during my PhD supporting Sixth Form students at a local college, and over the years I have continued to work with young people in a variety of contexts. I remain actively involved in educational initiatives beyond the UK, partnering with organisations in India and Ghana to help widen access to transformative learning opportunities.

Understanding Each Learner: Having tutored many students over the years, I’ve learned that everyone approaches learning differently. I always aim to match my teaching style to the individual in front of me. I consider myself patient but energetic.

Making Chemistry Accessible and Engaging: My approach is built on ensuring that every pupil can access the subject with confidence and interest. I draw on my experience as Head of Chemistry in two schools to build a clear, coherent learning journey, helping students understand how ideas connect rather than seeing topics in isolation.

Balancing Challenge and Support: I design lessons that stretch high achieving students through embedded challenge while also offering structured consolidation for those who benefit from reinforcement. My goal is always to meet each learner where they are and help them move forward with clarity.

Strong Emphasis on Exam Technique:My work as an examiner and with the Royal Society of Chemistry Assessment Group informs the exam-focused side of my tutoring. I help students decode command words, structure answers effectively, and apply their knowledge with precision.

Bringing Chemistry to Life: With years of experience tutoring at multiple levels, I enjoy bringing real world applications and engaging contexts into lessons.

A Belief in Every Student’s Potential: I believe that every learner can benefit from understanding key chemical principles and developing the analytical skills the subject fosters.

I make good use of my chemistry skills in cooking, baking and brewing beer.

I am a governor at a state comprehensive school, and am involved with educational charities in India and Ghana, which means that I get to go and refine my teaching skills with different types of student. To escape from chemistry and education I run (slowly) and play tennis
