I consider myself enthusiastic and reassuring, focused on building learning through effective, targeted support and developing confidence and resourcefulness to help empower students in their learning.
As a tutor, I have delivered online and in-person, 1:1 and group sessions and have successfully helped students gain places and scholarships at competitive, selective independent schools and grammar schools.
Outside tutoring, as Head of Assessment at a leading Independent Preparatory School, I lead exam preparation for all pupils including scholarship candidates. Ensuring children are on track to reach their potential and gain entry to their first choice schools is a priority. I have taught across KS2 and worked with children moving to their next schools in KS1 at 7+ and 8+. My teaching experience also includes A-Level and BTEC Psychology and I have provided 1:1 support as well as class teaching for coursework and exam preparation.
I grew up in the countryside in Kent and moved to Buckinghamshire when I was 14. After taking my A levels in Maths, Psychology and Human Biology at The Royal Latin Grammar School, I went on to gain a first class degree in Psychology from Northampton University. Whilst at university, I worked in a psychiatric facility with young people where I offered academic and pastoral support to individuals facing additional obstacles. Shortly after university, I conducted and presented my research linked to adolescent wellbeing at a CAMHS conference, travelled for a short time and completed a TEFL course. The reciprocal joy experienced through developing a love of learning and tailoring learning with real-world contexts lead me to complete my PGCE and I am still really enjoying working with students in different contexts to help learning feel accessible to all.
Gaining the best possible outcomes comes from placing the tutee at the centre of the learning, adapting the style and delivery to foster enjoyment and promote a desire to learn. Working collaboratively to enhance progress and having a clear focus on achievable outcomes has proven successful alongside regular questioning and discussion.
I am currently completing a Master’s degree in Educational leadership. When I am not studying or teaching, I enjoy keeping fit, adventures and horse riding.
“Dom is fantastic, she is engaging and makes learning fun, my daughter loved all her sessions with her, she was paramount in my daughter gaining entrance to Stratford Grammar School, one of the most selective schools in the County. She talked us through the process and then supported us throughout” (Mother 11+ Entrance Exam)
''My son was struggling with his English and had lost all belief in himself and was no longer engaged with the learning, sessions with Dominique really turned this around, she made it fun and ensured he believed in himself.'' (Parent 8+ English)
