Nicholas is a qualified History teacher, with over a decade of experience. He aims to assist students in developing their skills to establish a solid foundational knowledge. Nicholas is now completing a MA in Education and Technology at the UCL Institute of Education alongside his tutoring.

I have taught History for nearly a decade and was a Head of Department at the highest-rated Multi Academy Trust for pupil progress in the country alongside being an AQA Examiner. I am also Personal Statement specialist, with particular experience in Oxbridge personal statements and interview support.

In 2024 half of my GCSE class of 30 students exceeded their target grades, with a third of students achieving a grade 9 with another third achieving a grade 8.
My training through the University of Cambridge PGCE gave me a well-studied grounding in the pedagogy of History teaching and the role of the teacher as a facilitator within the classroom, as well as a consideration of the broader literature that surrounds my individual practice.
I have taught in a comprehensive state school for the better part of a decade and I have been in a departmental leadership role for the last three years. I have strong experience in teaching all ages from 11-18 and I have taken several exam classes through GCSE and A-Level History, with a particular specialism for A-Level teaching. I have taught students with a range of predicted grades, with particular success in supporting several students predicted a C grade achieving an A*/A. This has been supported by my work as an AQA A-Level History examiner for several years which has given me insight into the key aspects of each paper. In my capacity as Head of Department I have broader experiences of creating schemes of work and planning wider curricula and leading on training, creating assessments and subsequent data analysis.
As a teacher I ran the school's KS5 Humanities Scholars programme, where I used my own university experience to support students with Oxbridge preparation from multiple schools, from personal statement workshops to mock interviews, with a number of successful candidates each year. In the last five years that I have supported students in applying to Oxbridge, nearly all students have succeeded in being invited to interview and over 30 students have received offers for courses such as History, Engineering, MML, English Literature and Medicine.
I grew up in Wimbledon, London and studied at Tiffin School where I took A-Levels in History (A*), English Literature (A), Religious Studies (A) and Music (A). After enjoying a Widening Participation Humanities Residential in Cambridge in Year 12, I went on to apply and obtain a place at Trinity College, Cambridge where I read History.
During my time at Cambridge, I enjoyed exploring as broad a range of History as I could, from witchcraft in the 17th Century to the History of Political Thought. In my final year I specialised mostly in Film History, and was fortunate to conduct research at the Oscars Academy Archives in Los Angeles.
After my undergraduate degree I completed a PGCE at the University of Cambridge before teaching at a high-achieving comprehensive state school in West London, working as part of the highest-rated Multi Academy Trust for pupil progress in the country. After completing a Masters in Education at the University of Cambridge I became the second in charge of the department, before being appointed as Head of History the year after.
I took a break from teaching in order to delve into my fascination with the intersection between AI and education by completing a MA in Education and Technology at the UCL Institute of Education. I achieved a Distinction and received the top mark in the cohort for my dissertation on the Sociotechnical Imaginaries of AI in UK Secondary Education.

As a former History teacher and Head of Department, I understand the significant pressures students face today. My personal approach to tutoring focuses on supporting the student through continuous low-stakes assessment, reducing academic anxiety, nurturing personal motivation, and comprehensive long-term planning. In a supportive, judgment-free environment, students can admit knowledge gaps without fear as we tie their learning into their personal interests and goals. My aim is to relieve academic pressures, boost self-confidence, and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
I am dedicated to laying solid foundations for their long-term growth and future achievements. Rather than teaching to the test, I take a more holistic approach to build up a student’s skills, so they have the confidence and understanding to apply what they have learned to multiple cases. I use assessment for learning techniques to identify each student's strengths and weaknesses which allows us to customise an engaging, step-by-step plan that builds vital skills like critical thinking and problem-solving.
In my capacity as a classroom teacher I have lots of experience with adapting my teaching for students working at all levels of attainment and supporting students with special educational needs and EHCPs.
Having completed my MA in Education and Technology, I now work at the London AI Campus in Camden specialising in AI Literacy and Education.
When I am not working or tutoring I enjoy singing, quizzes, and watching films.
