I have taught in primary education as a Teacher and Head Teacher for over twenty years in a variety of settings - state and private schools, online and home environments. I have taught across the primary phase and have prepared pupils very effectively for their KS1 and KS2 SATS.
I have a particular passion for tutoring Maths but am also very confident to teach any primary subject. Tutoring experience includes working with children 1:1 in preparation for their KS1 tests. I have also delivered the KS3 Maths curriculum to a primary aged child who was particularly gifted in this subject and working with a Reception child in preparation for their school assessment to Alleyn’s.
My dream as a child was to be a teacher and so my educational journey was directed by this passion. I attended Wakefield Girls’ High School and really enjoyed it. I achieved 10 GCSEs in 1993 and went on to study 4 A Levels in 1995. I then attended Grey College at Durham University and graduated with an Honours degree in Geography (BSc). Next I went to Leicester University where I achieved a Primary PCGE in 1999. I then went on to have a very successful teaching and leadership career in primary education for more than twenty years. I have held a variety of different roles which have included Geography/History Leader, Science Leader, Assistant Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and over 10 years as a Head Teacher. During my teaching career I have continued to study and gained my NPQH in 2008, Every Child Counts teacher in 2010, Professional Qualification for School Inspection in 2016 and an Executive Programme of Leadership & Management (Distinction) in 2017.
Forming a strong, respectful relationship with the children I work with is key to good progress and results as they feel valued and are receptive to the topics we are learning together. I like to make the learning as engaging and fun as possible and tailor it to the child’s needs e.g. auditory, visual or kinaesthetic. I offer friendly and relaxed lessons which are bespoke to what the child requires. I use both online and practical resources to engage and inspire learning.
I have decided to take a career break and am about to embark on some part time study which will be for at least 2 years.
I love walking my 2 Goldendoodles in the local park, cooking, reading, jogging and painting.
''Jenny has been a great. My son loves his time with her, since day one. She makes learning fun for him, takes an interest in what he enjoys and is really thoughtful about creating sessions that he’ll respond to. He’s five and he’s not once been distracted or uninterested, quite the opposite! My son is really excited to see her and there is a lot of laughter when they’re together, which is testament to Jenny. Thank you! She’s also really great at sharing additional resources so we can keep his learning going between sessions. It’s been a really easy process and my son is getting loads from it. He’s coming on leaps and bounds.'' (Mother, 5+ Assessment)
