I first started tutoring during my first year of University, initially starting with A-Level and GCSE Economics and Maths across a number of syllabuses. I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring from the beginning, and loved being able to pass on the various tips for success I'd learnt across my time at school.
As my time at University went on, and since graduating, I've gained more and more tutoring experience at a variety of levels: from Key Stage 2, right up to Masters level. This has included helping several students make their applications to study Economics at Cambridge - a daunting and very difficult process which I went through myself. This included personal statement preparation, mock interview practice, and entrance exam (ECAA) preparation.
The students I've tutored have enjoyed a lot of academic success, surpassing their predicted grades, achieving first class honours results and gaining offers from Cambridge.
I was born in Peterborough and went to secondary school there before moving to London for sixth form. I studied A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Economics and English Literature. After this, I studied Economics at the University of Cambridge and graduated in June 2020 with a double first class honours. I am now pursuing tutoring full time.
My approach varies depending on the subject; with Maths, I like to focus on problem-solving ability initially, and try and help my students think outside the box in order to solve problems, I then teach the content, installing a fundamental understanding, before then going onto focus on exam technique in order to score high marks in exams.
With Economics, I think having a fundamental understanding is also key, and I also try and bring in real-world scenarios in order to make the content more relatable and easier to understand.
For University applications, I start with honing the personal statement before discussing the university-specific entry process.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I'm a very sociable person and enjoy hanging out with friends and family in my free time. I also play pool in a pub league and enjoy exercising.
