Over the past 3 years, I have tutored students in 11+, 13+, 16+ entrance exams for competitive UK school entries. My tutoring expertise comprises ISEB/CAT4/UKiset pre-test in Maths, English Verbal, Non-verbal, Spatial and Quantitative reasonings, as well as Common Entrance Exams in Maths and English. I am also highly experienced in preparing students for 1-2-1 and group interviews to help them show off their best selves and to create a good first impression. Students I have tutored have gained entry to / are currently studying in top schools in the UK such as King's School Wimbledon, St Paul's, Dulwich College, Oundle, Abingdon, Wycombe Abbey etc.
In terms of my tutoring track record at the GCSE/IGCSE level, many of my former students achieved Grade 7 or higher in Maths. As an example, I once helped a bright student who often made careless mistakes in maths that resulted in an average score in his mock exam. After an intensive 6 months tutoring exam technique, he was able to look out for his common mistakes and rectified them in time for the IGCSE exams. He went to score Grade 9 in the exam and studied Maths for his A-levels. Another similar example in IGCSE where a student suffered from anxiety and depression and struggled to translate her abilities into high performance in tests. Through making the tutoring session fun, interactive and breaking large problems down into more manageable chunks, she became more comfortable in answering questions and accomplished Grade 9 in her IGCSE Maths exam.
I am highly experienced in tutoring A-level Economics topic contents in themes 1 & 3 (Microeconomics) and 2 & 4 (Macroeconomics), exam technique (including long question answering and essay writings techniques) and revision strategies across multiple exam boards. My expertise in A-level Maths and Further Maths includes all Pure, Mechanics and Statistics concepts, past paper and exam techniques.
I graduated with a BSc in Economics (2:1 Honours) at the London School of Economics and Political Science, after attending Oakham School and earning my A-levels (A*AAA) in Economics, Maths, Further Maths and Chinese. I also won the GOLD Award in Intermediate & Senior Mathematics Challenge twice during this period, and became a UEFA qualified youth development football coach for Chelsea FC, where I learned valuable transferable skills from coaching to tutoring.
As a tutor, I am highly experienced in tutoring 11+/13+/16+ entrance exams for ISEB, CAT4 & UKiset in English, Maths, Verbal, Non-verbal, Spatial and Quantitative reasonings, as well as subject tutoring for KS3, GCSE and A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Economics & Chinese Mandarin.
As a tutor, I put strong emphasis on building rapport with students to foster mutual trust and in understanding what their best learning styles are. My proven teaching ethos has helped students gain self-confidence and independence through achieving academic excellence and problem solving skills.
As a strong believer in working closely with parents to ensure all learners remain motivated and meet weekly objectives, I personalise every session to meet the needs of our students, and focus on areas in which the student has the potential to improve. Each session is flexible and designed to work with students to reach their targets.
Currently working as a self employed freelance tutor, and enjoy coaching football when I am not tutoring.
''Dickson tutored me for two months before my A-Level exams in Maths and Further Maths. Through his effective, hands-on teaching style and his enthusiasm, he helped transform me from a struggling student to a more than able mathematician. Dickson was always available both in and out of lesson time to resolve any queries I had, and was willing to give up his time to explain hard-to-grasp concepts and difficult questions. His experience in teaching and his ability in problem solving was especially evident! I owe a great deal of my success and great results to Dickson, and would wholly recommend him as a teacher and a friend to all.'' (Student of A-Level Maths & Further Maths Student)
''Dickson is an absolute legend! My son was seriously struggling with his Maths and his confidence in exams and tests plummeted hugely until Dickson came on the scene and waved his magic wand! Dickson slowly and methodically went through all the areas that my son was struggling with and after only 6 lessons he suddenly shot up from bottom of his set to top of his set and excelled in his end of year exams! An utter triumph all round and furthermore Maths has now become one of his favourite subjects! I couldn’t recommend Dickson more highly and worth every penny!'' - (Parent of KS3 Maths)
''Dickson’s 11+ tutoring transformed my daughter’s learning experience. She used to struggle with learning and was unable to sit still for long to do her homework. In a short space of time, she went from disliking school to looking forward to it, and her willingness and curiosity to learn became better too. Her teacher said she is now trying harder at school and is more engaged in classes. Dickson is very good with her and she enjoys the lessons with him. He is an excellent tutor and a very kind and patient person. Thanks to Dickson, our daughter earned an offer from our first choice secondary school. We are lucky to have him and wholeheartedly recommend him to any parent'' (Parent, 11+ pre test / CEM)
''An incredible tutor! Dickson ensured I grasped every single concept fully and made me really think about how I obtained all my answers. I started out as a feeble mathematician and within the space of a few months Dickson has transformed me into a critical thinker. Without his help, I would not have been able to secure an admission into the 6th form at King's College School Wimbledon. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking to hone their potential and skillset to the fullest!'' (Student of 16+ entrance exams / CAT4,; Entry to King's College School Wimbledon)
