I have been a teacher and tutor for 14 years and am currently working in an academically selective school. In this time I have gained an excellent knowledge of the requirements for GCSE and A Level for all the exam boards. I have been able to add to this with my work as an examiner for GCSE and A Level. In addition, I am involved in marking entrance examinations for 11+ at my current and previous schools. My passion is for History and Politics and I love my job. I have tutored students who need extra confidence in preparation for their exams, those who need specific help with a particular skill or topic, Oxbridge preparation, coursework assistance and exam and essay skills. My students achieve excellent results.
I grew up in London where I attended Putney High School for my GCSEs. I then went to Westminster school for my A Levels in History, Latin, History of Art and Art. I took a year out after school where I taught English in Tanzania. I then went on to do a History degree at Newcastle, where I gained a 2:1. After my BA I completed an MA at the Central School of Speech and Drama. I completed my PGCE in History Secondary teaching at the institute of Education in 2004 and since then have worked in a range of state and private schools, such as Queens Gate school, as well as tutoring all ages from primary to A Level. I currently teach History and Politics at LEH. In addition I am an examiner for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level with Edexcel and OCR.
As an experienced teacher and tutor, I recognise that all students approach the subject in different ways and have different strengths and areas for improvement. I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement however this must be combined with academic rigour. My work as a GCSE and A Level examiner gives me a valuable insight into what it is that examiners are looking for and I will use this to bring out the best in my students but at the same time help them be as prepared as they can be for public examinations. I am patient and enthusiastic - I love my subjects - and I aim to instil this enthusiasm in my students.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am currently teaching at a top independent school. I am also chair of governors at my local primary school. When I am not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy cooking, reading and yoga.
