I am an enthusiastic and passionate practitioner, and I have a track record of encouraging great results from students who are initially apathetic. I am organised and reliable, and adore the challenges and satisfactions of one-to-one tuition. I have recently completed a doctorate at the University of Oxford, so am still very actively involved in study myself, giving me a profitable understanding of students' situations. I am now a lecturer in Literature and Film at the University of Exeter.
I think that learning is the natural inclination of most young people. This fundamental curiosity is wonderful to watch in action, and my strategy is always to excite and stimulate the student with my energy and passion. I adore the subjects I teach, especially English, and it is the careful application of this dedication which can really engage a student. I believe that learning should be fun, and the choice of texts and activities is crucial to inspiring a learner; if you get this right, serious learning can seem like a game and not chore.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am a keen reseacher, and I am currently preparing an academic book for publication. I am also a novelist. I read widely and pursue my interest in cinema by watching, researching and making films. I currently have a film showing in the 2017 Venice Biennale. I am also an enthusiastic actor and musician.
"Benedict was absolutely wonderful and my son enjoyed every moment of his tutoring and we thoroughly enjoyed having Benedict with us too!!" Mother of 13+ Student (Residential Job).
Benedict is a delightful tutor who shows total commitment to my son's specific needs and abilities. I could not fault him!
