I have over 12 years of teaching and tutoring experience, teaching students in KS2/KS3/iGCSE/A-Level chemistry, biology and physics. I have also taught chemistry at undergraduate level at both University of Oxford and UCL.
I prepare my own class notes. I ask my students to identify any weak areas that they experienced in their syllabus to tailor our lessons to improving these areas to achieve the best results. I not only provide the required knowledge to tackle exam-style questions but also the skills required to think critically, independently, and to problem-solve.
I am currently a Junior Research Group Leader (equivalent to a Junior Professor) in the topic of ultrafast electron diffraction and laser physics at a top international research institute. I lead a team of PhD students, scientists and technicians. I have obtained my PhD in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at Oxford University. Moreover, I received a rare commendation award from the Mathematics & Physical Life Sciences (MPLS) division of University of Oxford on the excellent quality of my PhD work, thesis and viva examination. I also have a First Class honours in an integrated Masters (MSci) degree in Chemistry with Mathematics (joint honours) from UCL, and straight A's in my A-Levels (before A*'s were introduced) in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics with Statistics. I was valedictorian of my year at my secondary school and I won an award for being the best student during my graduation.
I very much enjoy sports and have been captains of my football and cricket teams in the past, and I have played for the Oxford University football team. I captained my Oxford college first XI football team to promotion with 11 wins out of 14 games. I love music and movies as well as reading classic novels whenever possible. I am very organised and can multi-task/work on several projects at a time. For example. I organised big social events at my Oxford college whilst perform cutting-edge research in my PhD at the same time as carrying out teaching and tutoring commitments.
I am quite passionate about teaching our next generation scientists the skills and knowledge required to succeed at GCSE/A-Level/IB level and beyond.
I speak three languages (English, Farsi, Spanish) and I am working on learning a fourth (German).
I instil confidence and drive into my students as well as teaching them the importance of independent learning. I also share my own experiences in academia. I love to help and drive my students to be the best that they can be. I do not just teach what is covered by the syllabus but I go the extra mile by inspiring and energizing my students through discussions about the relevance and applications of what they are learning.
All of my students as well as a lot of my friends and family tell me that I am very motivating. I propel my students to push themselves past the level that they think they can reach since ''impossible is nothing'' – this is one of several important principles in my approach to life and being successful. I already have the experience of being academically extremely successful, and so I know what it takes to achieve success and excellent grades, and I regularly share my experiences with my tutees to give them the best chance of achieving the best grades.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I love sports and regularly keep active. I love to travel around the world, meet new people from different cultures. I like to travel to various different countries that I have never visitted to learn more about the different cultures around the world.
In my Ph.D, I studied the motion of molecules (breaking of bonds, isomerization reactions etc) after the imteraction of light (photons) with matter (molecules) on the timescale of nuclear motion (femtosecomd timescale). We can record quick ''snapshots'' of the molecule's structure at various points in time to build up a ''molecular movie'', allowing us to following the ensuing photo-induced chemical reaction (bond-breaking, isomerization).
"Kasra is an exceptional tutor and has given both my teenagers a real boost in skills and confidence. Thank you very much for providing this support to us during stressful A Level examinations." Mother of A Level students
"Thanks for introducing Kasra. He was of great help." Oxford Biochemistry applicant from Singapore.
"Kasra is very knowledgeable and thorough. He always makes sure that I understand all the concepts that he explains. He has been incredibly helpful so far and I am very much looking forward to having more lessons with him."
Our son got an A* and is going to Imperial to study Medicine. We're over the moon! Kasra is a great tutor and our son really valued his input.
''Kasra helped my daughter in achieving two A*'s, an A and a B in Biology, Maths, Chemistry and Physics, respectively, after being predicted AABC. He untangled and simplified topics and made them seem so much more easier.''
''Kasra really did go extra effort into my son's tutoring lessons by discussing the relevance of what he was learning in school. My son achieved an A* in his AS Level Maths exams.''
''I would like to thank Kasra for helping my son in preparing for his GCSE Maths exams who got an A after being predicted a C grade. Thank you.''
