- A2 and AS Geography (AQA, Edexcel, WJEC)
- GCSE Geography (AQA, Edexcel, OCR)
- University level Geography
- German - all levels including complete beginners and adult learners.
I am currently working (part time) as a Geography teacher in two private sixth form colleges in London, United Kingdom. I teach both A-levels and GCSEs. I have experience of teaching the following exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, WJEC and OCR. Importantly, I am familiar with both the old and new specifications.
I tutored AS and A2 Geography (WJEC Board) at a London state high school in preparation for their exams in June 2016.
I have been working as a private tutor for five years now, alongside my degree in Australia, as well as after, both in Australia and now London. I have had a very large and diverse range of clients. I have tutored university students in Geography and have guided them through essay submissions and exams.
I have also taught on an international level at North London Collegiate School, Jeju, South Korea (as a teaching assistant) and in rural Thailand (as part of a university project).
I was born in Regensburg, Germany and grew up in Penang, Malaysia. After completing high school (IGCSEs) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, I worked at North London Collegiate School Jeju, South Korea for six months as a teaching assistant. After this I attended the University of Melbourne in Australia for my three year undergraduate degree in Environments, majoring in Environmental Geographies, Politics and Cultures. During this time period, I also completed an intensive Mandarin language summer programme at the University of Hong Kong and taught English in rural Thailand during university holidays. I am bilingual, speaking English and German fluently and also speak a bit of Malay, French and Mandarin. I enjoy exploring new places and cultures and am fascinated by languages. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring and teach with a passion.
Building a strong working relationship and trust between the tutor and student is very important, and being easily approachable is a vital characteristic a tutor should have. Some students may have just lost their inspiration to learn and so it is the tutor's job to motivate and inspire them. An important role for a tutor is to build a students confidence and acting as a mentor to them. Additionally, it is important the student is guided on an individual-based level and encouraged to actively engage and think, making links with information explained to them, and not spoon fed. Especially applicable to Geography, my lessons have a strong focus on exam technique and effective exam preparation.
What I do when I am not tutoring
When I am not tutoring I enjoy exploring the city, catching up with friends, relaxing at home with a good book, keeping up to date with global news and events, and travelling and exploring new places and cultures.

''I employed Sebastian as a private tutor for my daughter to help with ‘A’ level Geography revision. Sebastian had a calm but systematic approach and helped my daughter to organize her notes and material thoroughly. He talked my daughter through essay questions and through discussion enabled her to reach answers logically, sealing her knowledge. He also provided a very useful list of exam tips. My daughter received an A* in the final exam and secured a place at her first choice university. Sebastian helped her achieve this. I have no hesitation in recommending Sebastian as a private tutor.'' - Mother of A2 Geography student.
''Sebastian has been providing weekly support sessions, utilising Skype, for my son who is 17 for the past three months. My son advises the sessions are very worthwhile and Sebastian's infectious enthusiasm for Geography is matched by his clarity of explanation of it. My son's confidence in and otherwise little appetite for the subject, one of his 3 A Levels, has risen significantly.'' - Father of A2 Geography student.
16/04/2016: ''My son needed a bit of a boost prior to his AS Level Geography and even after two sessions with Sebastian, my son is feeling like he has more direction with his exam technique and seems a whole lot more confident to boot! Can highly recommend!'' - Mother of AS Geography student.
''Complex and puzzling content was so well explained and all topics were revised in large depth.'' - Mother of GCSE Geology student.
26/07/2016: ''Exceptional bilingual geography tutor who goes above and beyond! Punctual, committed and has a vast range of resources to draw case studies from! I would highly recommend to any students at all levels including graduate students! Very very pleased!'' - Director of Think Tutors tutoring agency.
