Having been a tutor to over 100 students over the past four years, I have found helping others to achieve academic success to be a hugely rewarding experience. By providing students with individualised attention where I can allay concerns and insecurities can make a huge difference to the educational experience. Taking a holistic approach to learning can massively improve on self-confidence, spur a sense of curiosity and concurrently stimulate a real a love of learning. Many students are not challenged enough at school, and are easily disengaged and even bored by school and formal learning. Having been tutored as a child, I found it to be a hugely engaging and dynamic experience during which I learned a huge amount in a short space of time –which is a testament to the quality of teaching I was lucky to receive. I relish the challenge of recreating this experience for others.
Teaching should be an equal balance of eliciting and lecturing. In deference to this, I try to stimulate discussion when teaching new concepts, and believe the role of the tutor is to support and facilitate a heuristic approach to learning. By gently guiding students through the flaw/s in their reasoning, they are more likely to fully grasp why they went wrong, and are less likely to make such mistakes in the future.
I pride myself on my ability to modify my approach to cater to the student’s needs, but often I find students appreciate an informal but enthusiastic style. Patience and optimism are the main traits I strive to convey in my teaching and I particularly enjoy developing memory techniques with the students to enhance their learning.
What I do when I am not tutoring
To unwind I enjoy keeping up with current affairs and reading dystopian literature. I think there is no better way to relax than with a good book! I am also a keen debater who has achieved National level competition success.
I wanted to let you know that my daughter took double award Science and got two A*s! I am sure her science grades were in part due to you, so I wanted to thank you again, so much, for all your help. My daughter really enjoyed her sessions with you.
'I can't tell you how lovely Hani is, it helps of course that she is delightful and clever and most of all she just gets my daughter. In the past my daughter has hated any kind of tutoring, she actually looks forward to Hani coming to us and working with her. AMAZING!' (Mother of GCSE Science student)
'I can't thank Hani enough, she helped me achieve an A in AS Biology! This was 3 months after getting a D in my mock.' Student R
'Hani came, and completely reformed my daughter’s views by simply being patient, sincere and inventive with her teaching methods. I have seen my daughter blossom over the past 18 months and it is due in huge part to Hani’s skills. My daughter achieved the highest levels in her SATS, and emerged from primary school as a curious young girl. My daughter has taken hugely to Hani and we hope she will come back and tutor for us when my daughter has her next exams.' Mother of tutee
'Thank you so much Hani. My daughter really likes you and the way you reach.' Mother of tutee
