I have prepared pupils for the following exams:
GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (all exam boards)
A-level Biology (all exam boards)
A-level Chemistry (all exam boards)
One to one teaching experience:
I have tutored pupils of all abilities over the past four years and have been praised for my ability to teach the understanding of the subject rather than a skimming over in-order to pass the exam.
School Teaching Experience:
Through the Teach First scheme I have taught secondary science and A-level Biology for pupils that come from disadvantaged backgrounds in two inner London schools. The experience allowed me to lead with other teach first participants a teacher training course for teachers in rural Uganda designed to improve teaching and learning pedagogy in over 400 secondary and primary Ugandan classrooms. In 2015 I was the group leader of a similar project in Cambodia, taking 15 UK teachers and leading a coaching course in modern pedagogy.
I am currently a PhD student at the London School of Tropical Medicine having completed my MSc at the school in 2016. My research is focused on the pursuit of new therapies for American Trypanosomiasis and a future vaccine. Before this I qualified as a teacher through a scheme called Teach First in 2011 and have taught in two London secondary schools over the intervening four years. Throughout this time I have taught hundreds of pupils of all abilities and sharpened my skills as a teacher of GCSE Science and A-level Biology and Chemistry. I have taught pupils in one to one sessions for the last four years with all pupils achieving their target grade or above. My approach is different for each student with some pupils pushing the lessons in the direction of greater understanding of the subject while others want to use my experience to ensure they achieve top marks.
My approach to home tuition is to promise well prepared and resourced lessons that allow my students to excel beyond their target grade. I ensure my lessons are tailored to the learning needs of my students and deliver them with infectious enthusiasm, fostering engagement with a subject that I am very much involved in the cutting edge of day in and out.
What I do when I am not tutoring
Running marathons. My next one will take place on the 21st of May 2017.
Hiking/climbing. The last peak I attempted was Mt Kazbegi in Georgia in April 2017.
I can provide current testimonials from pupils sitting the exams time summer, 2017 if requested by e-mail.
Testimonials from previous pupils:
