I have supported many students with their applications to world-leading universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial, and have led mock interviews for candidates applying to subjects ranging from Chemical Engineering to Materials Science and Physics. I have also tutored students across a range of GCSE and A-level STEM subjects.

In addition to tutoring, I am a graduate teaching assistant at Imperial College London, where I assist with the delivery of laboratory practicals to undergraduate students. I support lead academics with the explanation of lab theory and help throughout the sessions when students are struggling to understand concepts or practical skills. I enjoy this work as it often sparks new conversations about the broader topics, which I think is very useful for overall learning and something I try to apply to my tutoring sessions.

Biography

I was born in Sheffield, where I attended King Edward VII school and achieved 4 A*s, and was accepted to study Materials Science at the University of Oxford. I loved my time in Oxford, developing a passion for metallurgy and continuing my competitive gymnastics career.

I received an MEng degree, and I have now begun a PhD project at Imperial College London, studying the development of impurity-tolerant recycled aluminum alloys.

Approach to Tutoring

Having received excellent tutoring from world-class academics at the University of Oxford, I believe I understand how it feels to be taught difficult subjects in small groups or 1 on 1 with a tutor. I believe I've picked up a number of techniques from this that I found successful for myself, and that I try to apply during my tutoring. I like to keep teaching very interactive and ensure tutoring sessions are as much of a conversation about the topic as they are a listening exercise. I am always trying to adapt the way that I teach to individuals' needs and welcome any feedback along the way.

When not tutoring

Outside of tutoring, I am a PhD student at Imperial College London, where I study the formation of intermetallic compounds in recycled aluminium with a goal to reduce their damaging nature and allow for recycled aluminium to be used in a wider range of applications.

Beyond academics, however, I am a keen athlete and enjoy partaking in a range of different sports. I was a competitive gymnast and diver since the age of 6, but recently I have taken a break from this and started to focus on triathlons. I completed my first ever triathlon, which was Olympic distance, over summer and now my goal is to complete a full Ironman triathlon before the end of my PhD.
