I grew up in Wimbledon and went to Putney High School until I was 16. I then moved to Westminster School for the sixth form where I got 4 A’s at A-level in History, English, Economics and Geography. I spent my gap year travelling around South America and then went on to Magdalene College, Cambridge to read Geography. Soon after graduating with a 2.1, I started a graduate scheme at Deutsche Bank in London. After a few years in Investment Banking I moved into Private Wealth Management and worked for Killik & Co in Mayfair. Over a number of years there I completed professional exams but after a while I grew tired and unenthused by life in the City! At this point, when I was 27 years old, I decided to train to become a teacher. I completed a PGCE in General Primary Years (Reception to Year 6) at London South Bank University. My first job as a qualified teacher was in Year 6 at Sutton High School (GDST) and then I went on to teach Year 5 and worked as Head of Year 5 at Thomas’s Battersea. More recently, I have worked with small groups in Year 6 in a school in Wimbledon and also a supply teacher across South West London.

I think it is of utmost importance to create a safe and nurturing environment. One to one tuition can feel, at first, quite daunting for a child and it is important to create an atmosphere that is calm, kind and open. There is no such thing as a ‘silly’ question or answer and I work hard to ensure that a child will feel at ease in my lessons. I love to learn more about a child’s personality and their interests, so I can integrate these into my lessons to keep them engaged. I use a wide range of resources and tools to assess where the child is currently and we will map out a clear path together to ensure we reach our goals, whilst hopefully having fun and building confidence along the way.

I have been fortunate enough to spend the last few years at home with my two young children prior to them starting school. My eldest son is at Eaton House the Manor in Year 3 and my daughter has just joined the same school in Reception. When I am not ferrying them between swimming lessons, birthday parties and football matches, I love to exercise, read, socialise with my friends and cook new recipes for my family to try!
