I grew up in Sheffield, where I attended state school before going on to study English at the university. I took a double First Class undergraduate degree between 2014-2017, before receiving an MPhil with Distinction in 2018. I completed my PhD, which focused on close readings of the poet Dylan Thomas, in 2022; during the course of this I also taught Cambridge undergraduates.
Around tutoring, I am a writer and critic, with various journal articles in academic publications, as well as reviews in the Times Literary Supplement, Telegraph, and Literary Review. As a young writer I was a winner of the international Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, as well as the Poetry Business's inaugural New Poets' Prize, and was a young Poet on the Underground with Transport for London in 2015.
For as long as I can remember, I've been more interested in writing and reading than anything else. I've written poetry from an early age, and was one of fifteen winners of the Foyle Young Poets of the Year competition in 2013; since then I've published work in the London Review of Books, The Poetry Review, and on the London Underground through the Poems on the Underground project. My debut collection is forthcoming in 2025 with Prototype Books. I've published academic papers in five different peer-reviewed journals, and also review regularly for the Times Literary Supplement. As such, I'm skilled at writing for various audiences, and sensitive to how readers might differ in their needs. My teaching is enriched by my background as a poet and writer, with an insider's knowledge of and deep enthusiasm for how texts are composed.
I moved to London in Autumn 2022, working as a freelance copyeditor alongside two jobs selling fragrance in luxury retail environments, first for Ffern from November '22 to September '23, and then for Liberty London from October '23 to June '24. Managing freelancing alongside retail has resulted in excellent organisational and time-management skills, while my time selling fragrance has helped me develop immaculate customer service skills, confidence in aiding and assisting clients, and experience in communicating effectively with clients and delivering a desired outcome.
I then decided that I wanted to stop working in retail and pursue something more mentally stimulating and rewarding, and that I genuinely love doing; namely, teaching. In July 2025 I undertook a CELTA qualification at International House, London, learning how to teach English as a foreign language. Having studied French at A Level, and Italian during my undergraduate degree, I'm deeply interested in language acquisition for students of all ages, but also in developing my own thorough pedagogical techniques, applicable across all forms of tuition.
