I was educated at Selhurst Grammar School for Girls,Croydon, where I achieved A Levels in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, all at grade A.I then took a degree in Special Mathematics at Bristol University followed by a PGCE at Sussex University. After completing my teaching practice at Thomas Bennett School, Crawley I was offered a permanent post which I accepted. From there I was appointed Head of Mathematics at Priory Girls' Grammar in Shrewsbury. After a spell of teaching in Zimbabwe I returned to the UK where I became Deputy Head at Shrewsbury High School. I then spent 19 years as Head of Northampton High School. Throughout my career I have taught Mathematics to the age range 11-18.
Most of the students I teach have a specific goal and I therefore ensure that I know the details of the syllabus and examination requiremets. I feel it is important for students to gain the confidence to ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere without pressure from their peers and I encourage their active participation in our sessions, by working together through problems once the theory has been covered.
I have a large garden which takes up some time. Living in a small village in open countryside I enjoy walking and observing the birds, butterflies and moths.
I like to travel and enjoy meeting new people and making sure I keep an open mind to different points of view and new experiences--vital as one grows older.
