I am a Cambridge-educated tutor who has tutored a broad range of ages - from my time as a full-time teacher to a class of 63 children aged 8-11 years old in Swaziland (Southern Africa), through to successfully preparing students for Oxbridge entrance exams, and numerical and reasoning tests. I have tutored or coached students on a regular, weekly basis for the past 7 years.
I am a Maths and Economics specialist and have a wealth of practical as well as technical experience which helps me inspire my students and bring the subjects to life.
I attended Bablake School - one of the top schools in the Midlands. I completed my A-Levels in Physics, Economics, Maths, Further Maths, and General Studies getting straight 'A's as well as the Elizabeth Allen School prize for Outstanding Student of Economics.
Between school and university I trained as a TEFL teacher and completed a year of teaching in a remote school in Swaziland, Southern Africa. I taught English and Maths to my class of 63(!) 8-11 year olds. This was my first experience of teaching and I loved it!
I then went to Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, and completed my BA in Economics getting a II.i. I was lucky enough to complete my final dissertation under the tutelage of Amartya Sen - one of the leading Development Economists in the world who was also Master of Trinity College at the time.
Coming from a family of teachers I knew I had a love of teaching, but I was also encouraged to get some 'real world' experience before heading into full-time teaching. I knew I also had a passion for business so I secured a Graduate role at Ernst & Young, passed my professional accountancy exams and spent 7 years working there. During my time there I wanted to continue pursuing my love of coaching people and so qualified as a personal trainer. With the encouragement of senior Ernst & Young partners I then successfully launched and ran 2 start-up companies in health tailored to the corporate world. Through my PT, my start-ups and independent tutoring I have coached and trained people for the past 9 years.
Realising that my passion for teaching, I have now switched my focus to teaching and tutoring full time.
My method of teaching varies with every student I teach. I quickly establish their learning style and adapt my approach to suit their needs. Making the examples and exercises as relevant as possible to the student's own life makes the learning more fun and engaging.
I also bring many of my learnings from playing sport at a high level (Great Britain Age Group) into my teaching approach and my background in coaching and health means that I can help my students not only understand the technical aspects of a subject, but also how to cope with exam and interview stress.
I think that this TED talk beautifully resonates with my approach to tutoring:
https://www.ted.com/talks/rita_pierson_every_kid_needs_a_champion?language=en
'Every kid needs a champion' - and I try to be that champion for every student I teach.
When not tutoring I can usually be found in some sort of sports kit! I am a fully-qualified Personal Trainer and a British Triathlon Federation coach. I am a senior coach at Windrush Triathlon Club and coach them on a weekly basis. I am also the lead Running Coach at GoodGym Hammersmith & Fulham who combine running with charitable tasks - a very rewarding role that I love!
As well as sport I love art (though my love may out-weigh my talent!) and I love the great outdoors. I will often escape London with a group of friends for a camping trip, a hiking weekend or an adventure race!

''Anna helped me in my TSA exams for entrance to Oxford University. I was completely baffled by the style of questions before we started tutoring, but by the end I was able to confidently recognise the approach I should take for each question and answer the tough paper quickly and efficiently. I was so confident going into the exam.''
TSA student
''Anna was fantastic! In just a few sessions she took me from dreading numeracy tests to passing them with flying colours! She very quickly understood why I wasn't 'getting' the tests and was struggling, and she explained things in a way that just made sense. I felt that she really tailored her approach to me.''
