Prior to studying for my degree, I worked as a Maths Intervention Specialist and later a teacher in secondary schools and taught Maths for GCSE to A-Level Further Maths including Additional Maths in which all students achieved or exceeded their targets, achieving A*/A grades. I also delivered targeted tutoring, GCSE revision sessions to students of a range of abilities and after school exam preparation lessons. As a private tutor, I delivered intervention plans with students in GCSE and A level Physics and Maths raising their working at grades by 2 grades in just 2 weeks. I have also successfully tutored Oxbridge students.
Alongside my Masters, I was a tutor in the ORBYTS program where I deliver outreach sessions to A Level Physics classes, teaching the content and coding skills they need to undertake original research, looking for supernovae remnants in new satellite data.
I was born in Oxfordshire and have been fortunate to travel widely with my family. Having gained A levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics I spent a year teaching, an interest in part inspired by my mother, a secondary Principal.
After successfully securing a first class degree in Theoretical Physics from Nottingham University I moved to London to continue my research with a MSc at UCL in Astrophysics for which I achieved a Distinction. My research focussed on theoretical Cosmology and the nature of Dark Energy.
I joined Keystone tutoring part-time during my postgraduate study and now focus on tuition for many students in London and Online.
I conduct sessions either individually or in groups and tailor content and delivery to the particular needs of the students. I am able to quickly assess misconceptions and areas of weak understanding within the syllabus using effective questioning skill and analysis of previous work. I address these using a variety of resources and teaching styles dependent on the learning styles of the students. I set consolidation exercises, check understanding, mark and track the progress of my students to ensure the most effective use of time. A clear focus on coaching exam technique ensures success. I am able to explain difficult and complex content in a way which makes it accessible and support students to be able to apply their understanding in a verity of contexts, improving their ability to decode exam questions. I focus on method so steps can easily be followed and explanations are clearly constructed to maximise marks attained.
After my MSc Astrophysics at University College London I am continuing research into specialising in cosmological dynamical systems particularly involving scalar field theory. I play rugby, captaining my team during my undergraduate degree as well as skiing and enjoying all forms of tabletop games. I am interested in a number of sports and am a keen skier.
Alex is the most wonderful, patient tutor. He explains everything in such an amazing way that the children keep interested and can understand and follow. He worked with my daughter through her A Levels and I can honestly say without his tuition she would never have achieved the grades she got to get into one of the best Universities in the world. He is now working with my younger daughter for her GCSEs and is an absolute life saver. I would highly and without hesitation recommend him to everyone. - Parent of GCSE Maths and Science student and A Level Maths student
Alex tutored both of my children through GCSE and A level Maths and Further Maths. He changed his teaching style to suit each of them, and they both really enjoyed their sessions with him. As a result, their exam results really turned around. I would wholeheartedly recommend him as very knowledgeable and an excellent tutor. Parent of Maths students
Alex tutored me in Maths after I moved schools. He's such an expert and was so great at explaining the hard parts and was really helpful at going through exams. I felt so much better in all my exams thanks to our work. - A Level Maths student
After my son began struggling with his GCSEs, Alex's tutoring greatly improve his grades and also finds a way to inspire a real interest in the subjects that he never got from school. - Parent of GCSE Science student
