I have been tutoring since 2006 and within this time, I have seen my students flourish, achieving outstanding results in their exams and succeeding in their university courses and careers. My main subjects are Economics and Business and am experienced in teaching these subjects from A-Level/IB right up to postgraduate level. At university level, I teach all aspects of Economics including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and Behavioural Economics. I am a specialist in Statistics and therefore can also support students on non-economics courses, who require help on data analysis projects.
I am an award-winning teacher having been given the prestigious award of Teaching Excellence at the University of Nottingham. My teaching style was praised by the Director of Teaching Excellence, who conducted an independent observation. As a lecturer at the University of Manchester, I was involved in the training of new teachers. This has enabled me to sharpen my own teaching skills as well as giving me the opportunity to inspire new teachers.
I have academic affiliation with many of the top Economics/Business Schools in the UK. These include the University of Birmingham, University of Nottingham, University of Manchester, Queen Mary University of London, Imperial College Business School and the London School of Economics. I am highly experienced in supporting students with their university applications and am able to provide expert guidance through the UCAS process including university choices, personal statement and specialised reading.
I am experienced with both teaching face-to-face and online. I regularly teach students who are based around the world including Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the USA. I use the latest technology enabling live video, real-time interactive whiteboards and instant file sharing.
I studied Economics at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 2004. I then completed both a Masters degree and PhD in Economics at the University of Nottingham. Continuing my passion for education, I began tutoring in 2006 and have been employed as a lecturer in the leading Russell-Group universities in the UK including University of Nottingham, Queen Mary University of London, University of Manchester and Imperial College Business School.
I strongly believe in mentorship, providing students with important skills to learn course material and succeed in exams. My lessons are highly engaging, encouraging interaction with a focus on real-life application and of course, getting the highest marks possible.
I work as a lecturer at Imperial College Business School and am an affiliated researcher in Behavioural Economics with both the University of Manchester and the London School of Economics.
"The time my daughter has spent with Nik has been valuable on several levels; it has given her more confidence in her ability to revise and made her focus on areas she now needs to work on." (Mother of A Level Economics student)
"I would highly recommend Nik. My son decided to re-sit his IB Economics High level and Nik was engaged just 6 weeks prior to the exam. Nik has an excellent knowledge of the subject and course syllabus. He quickly assessed my son’s lack of knowledge and was able to focus him on the most critical areas to address this knowledge gap. Nik then focused on exam practice and technique. His approach was excellent as he significantly motivated my son and together they made immense progress. My son had other commitments but Nik worked in such a flexible manner that he was able to accommodate this without any impact on the end result. Nik is truly a highly skilled tutor with the ability to get the best out of his students even when under pressure due to a short timeframe. He enjoyed being tutored by Nik and I therefore would have no hesitation in recommending Nik." Father of IB Economics student.
"Nik’s understanding of economics made him a very competent tutor who helped me to get to grips with the subject, which I hadn’t studied beforehand. He was able to explain conceptual economics in an articulate way, but also had the mathematical grounding to illustrate the detail that lay behind them. My father (who works in finance) sat in during one of our sessions and was impressed by Nik’s ability. He gave me reading tasks to do in my own time, which meant that when I saw him we didn’t waste any time and we could get straight on with the important stuff. Moreover, his specialisation in behavioural economics was fortunate since it’s a subject which I find particularly interesting - I enjoyed hearing about his own academic research and experiments. I had no previous understanding of the subject, but when I went to interview I felt confident, and I succeeded." Successful PPE Oxford applicant.
"My son has really prospered from your tutoring". Economics Edexcel A Level student
'Studying with Nik for my retake exams was an exciting and fast-paced experience. With his vast awareness in current economic affairs, he constantly challenged me to think outside the box throughout my preparation for the IB exams. Despite the short amount of time that we faced, he kept me positive and goal oriented and thus we were able to cover a 2 year IB Economics HL syllabus in as little as 3 months. The result was an improvement from a grade 4 to a grade 7.'

“Nik helped me get to grips with statistics for a module in my osteopathy degree. I absolutely hated stats before but Nik made learning them pleasant and even quite fun, whilst applying osteopathic concepts to them. With his help I managed to understand the relevant analytical tests and apply them to my research - which Nik also gave some very handy pointers with. I still hate statistics but at least I understand how and when to apply which tests and got an A for my exam and research paper. Well done Nik!”
