I have been tutoring since 2006 and have vast experience of both teaching one-to-one and teaching student groups. Within this time I have taught a large number of students in the London area with outstanding results. My specialist subject is Economics and I am able to teach this from A-Level/IB Level right up to postgraduate level including advanced topics such as Econometrics and Behavioural Economics. I am also highly experienced in tutoring Business Studies, Maths and Statistics.
I have links with many of the top Economics/Business Schools in the UK and have been invited to teach on numerous occasions. Institutions include the University of Nottingham, University of Manchester, Queen Mary University of London, Imperial College Business School and the London School of Economics. My exceptional teaching abilities were recognised, when I was given the prestigious award of Teaching Excellence at the University of Nottingham. Above all, my teaching style was praised by the Director of Teaching Excellence, who conducted an independent observation. As a lecturer at the University of Manchester, I was involved in the training of new teachers. This has enabled me to sharpen my own teaching skills as well as giving me the opportunity to inspire new teachers.
In addition to tutoring in London, I have also been working with the Keystone-Arch partnership teaching students online. I am experienced in teaching students from Hong Kong, China and Singapore. This has proved extremely successful with my students attaining the highest grades. I use high quality software which enables live video streaming, real time interactive whiteboards and file sharing.
After graduating from the University of Birmingham studying Economics, I moved to the University of Nottingham, where I completed both a Masters degree and a PhD in Economics. I was then employed as a lecturer in Econometrics at the University of Manchester. I am now living in London working as a lecturer at Imperial College Business School.
My approach to tuition is simple – highly engaging lessons encouraging interaction with a focus on real life application and of course getting the highest marks possible.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I work as a lecturer at Imperial College Business School and am an affiliated researcher with both the University of Manchester and the London School of Economics.
"The time my daughter has spent with Nik has been valuable on several levels; it has given her more confidence in her ability to revise and made her focus on areas she now needs to work on." (Mother of A Level Economics student)
"I would highly recommend Nik. My son decided to re-sit his IB Economics High level and Nik was engaged just 6 weeks prior to the exam. Nik has an excellent knowledge of the subject and course syllabus. He quickly assessed my son’s lack of knowledge and was able to focus him on the most critical areas to address this knowledge gap. Nik then focused on exam practice and technique. His approach was excellent as he significantly motivated my son and together they made immense progress. My son had other commitments but Nik worked in such a flexible manner that he was able to accommodate this without any impact on the end result. Nik is truly a highly skilled tutor with the ability to get the best out of his students even when under pressure due to a short timeframe. He enjoyed being tutored by Nik and I therefore would have no hesitation in recommending Nik." Father of IB Economics student.
"Nik’s understanding of economics made him a very competent tutor who helped me to get to grips with the subject, which I hadn’t studied beforehand. He was able to explain conceptual economics in an articulate way, but also had the mathematical grounding to illustrate the detail that lay behind them. My father (who works in finance) sat in during one of our sessions and was impressed by Nik’s ability. He gave me reading tasks to do in my own time, which meant that when I saw him we didn’t waste any time and we could get straight on with the important stuff. Moreover, his specialisation in behavioural economics was fortunate since it’s a subject which I find particularly interesting - I enjoyed hearing about his own academic research and experiments. I had no previous understanding of the subject, but when I went to interview I felt confident, and I succeeded." Successful PPE Oxford applicant.
"My son has really prospered from your tutoring". Economics Edexcel A Level student
"Nik was really great, it is so hard finding a Tutor who can teach up to university level and Nik was able to teach me the econometrics module I am retaking without any problems." (University Economics and Finance student)
Nik calmly took our son through some past papers and they prepared model answers for the sort of questions that come up. (Mother of AS Economics student)
“My daughter reports her statistics lessons have gone very well!” (Father of Year 10 student)
“I was very impressed with Nik and have since recommended your organisation to a friend” (Mother of Economics student)
“The tutoring she got from Nik really helped. She has made her grades and will going off to Edinburgh University next month” (Mother of Economics student)
“Great thank you so much. Our daughter really enjoyed working with Nik and we felt she really benefited from all the sessions” (Mother of A Level Math and Economics student)
'Studying with Nik for my retake exams was an exciting and fast-paced experience. With his vast awareness in current economic affairs, he constantly challenged me to think outside the box throughout my preparation for the IB exams. Despite the short amount of time that we faced, he kept me positive and goal oriented and thus we were able to cover a 2 year IB Economics HL syllabus in as little as 3 months. The result was an improvement from a grade 4 to a grade 7.'
“Nik helped me get to grips with statistics for a module in my osteopathy degree. I absolutely hated stats before but Nik made learning them pleasant and even quite fun, whilst applying osteopathic concepts to them. With his help I managed to understand the relevant analytical tests and apply them to my research - which Nik also gave some very handy pointers with. I still hate statistics but at least I understand how and when to apply which tests and got an A for my exam and research paper. Well done Nik!”
