I have been tutoring privately for over 10 years and I now have 4 years teaching experience under my belt. During that time I have taught AQA and Edexcel boards for KS3 Spanish, KS4 Spanish and KS5 Spanish. This year I am also the Coordinator for English as an Additional Language, and I have delivered interventions in small groups for these students. Previously, I have also had pastoral roles as a form tutor and Assistant Head of Year 8.
As a classroom teacher, I receive consistently outstanding feedback during observations, including throughout Teach First training, from Ofsted inspectors (2022) and this year from educational consultants at Harris Academy.
I am always proud of my students achievements and to give you a few examples: a GCSE student was predicted a 5 and achieved an 8, another GCSE student with SEND was predicted a 3 and achieved a 5, and an A Level student was predicted a C and achieved an A.
I am British-Lebanese and spent my childhood growing up around lots of different languages which instilled a love for it very early on. I attended a small prep called Dolphin School, which adopts a Montessori style of learning, so we were given long-dated homework and learnt to be organised as a result. From there, I went to Bradfield College up to GCSE (5 A*s and 4 As) and The Abbey School for A Levels (AAB). I was accepted to the University of Bristol to study Spanish, although on return from spending my gap year in Madrid I decided to switch to Spanish and Portuguese. I achieved a high 2:1 overall (68%) with an oral distinction in Spanish (78%). After university I worked for a few years in international development and fundraising, organising events in the UK, USA, Kenya, Guatemala, Chile and Spain. I also interpreted Spanish-English and English-Spanish at a number of these events. After a break, where I travelled and worked in Latin America for 18 months, I decided to retrain as a teacher and have been teaching for four years.
I am a diligent, enthusiastic, approachable and considerate Spanish teacher and private tutor. I am truly passionate about my subject and I think it is one of the most important tools a young person can have in their toolbox.
I have a strongly evidence-based practice and I build logical lessons that are catered to the needs of the student. I create a safe environment where, through discussion and unpicking a student's responses, I am able to understand strengths, weaknesses and any misconceptions and I am practised at addressing these in different ways. For GCSE and A Level students, I study mark schemes thoroughly and I know what is needed to help students get to higher grades. One-to-one tutoring can be quite intense, so I have a number of educational games on hand for when a student needs a quick break.
I am still teaching part-time in South-West London. When I am not teaching or tutoring, I am renovating my house in Tulse Hill, reading (mostly fiction) or travelling with my husband.
