I began tutoring over 5 years ago, and in this time have accumulated well over 500 hours of experience. This experience has mainly focussed on the GCSE and A level age range, and includes live-in and residential tutoring work, both in the UK and internationally. I mostly have worked with students on their Maths and Physics, but Spanish is another subject I have supported tuttees with.
Brought up in South West London, I achieved A*A*A*A at A level studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Spanish at The Lady Eleanor Holles School. In 2016, I then went on to study Maths and Physics for just over a year at Durham University, before taking a break from my studies. During this year I began tutoring and did a placement teaching maths at a further education college. In the following break, I worked for a startup in London, alongside working as a live-in tutor for a family in West London. I then returned to University (UCL) with an academic and a sports scholarship and continued tutoring alongside my studies. I graduated in 2021 gaining a 1st class degree in Statistics, Economics and Spanish. Whilst studying, I did an array of tutoring work, including residential and international jobs.
During university, I interned twice for Goldman Sachs in their Private Wealth Management division, where I then started a full time role as a Financial Analyst after graduating. I continued to attempt to balance my training and racing for cycling alongside this intense full-time role. At the end of 2021 I received a contract offer for a team for 2022, so I decided to put this career on hold to pursue cycling for the foreseeable.
Leaving Goldman Sachs at the beginning of December 2021, I then flew out to the Maldives for a month long tutoring job at a Soneva resort.
Outside of academics, I won the Age Group Standard distance European duathlon championships in 2020, and I have since transitioned to focus on cycling. This coming 2022 season, I will be racing for Team Spectra Wiggle p/b Vitus.
My approach is one of enthusiasm and encouragement. Naturally a bubbly character, I find students respond well to a tutor who motivates them and inspires them to achieve the best they can. I tend to focus my sessions around questions, hunting for any knowledge gaps a student may have. We can then work together to fill these gaps and strengthen any weaker areas. My lessons are always energetic and positive, as enjoyment of sessions and the subject we are working together on is what I have found produces the best results and largest improvement.
Alongside tutoring, I am an elite cyclist and race for a team in national and international races. Any time I am not tutoring or out training on my bike, I can often be found in my kitchen, where I will most likely be rolling my own fresh pasta.
''We couldn’t recommend Maddy more highly, she made Maths A level interesting and fun. She listened carefully and responded astutely to our daughter’s questions. She was always quick with solutions and was not prescriptive, but flexible and taught interactively. She became a friend and mentor and our daughter achieve an A*!'' (Parent of A Level Maths Student)
''Madeleine is by far the best Physics tutor my son has had. She prepares extremely well and her explanations are clear and very helpful. A real bonus is that she has the knack of making the lessons enjoyable. We would recommended Madeleine for A level Physics'' (Parent of A Level Physics Student)
''Madeleine was the sole reason I was able to pass a set of Maths exams as part of an overall selection week for my next job. She is an outstanding tutor. Professional, patient, humorous, very knowledgeable and always interesting.'' (Previous tutee)
