As well as teaching horse riding and drama classes to young pupils, I have taken up summer internships at Tanglin Trust School in Singapore in the language department. My job included organising group and individual projects for the students, helping them develop written, oral and communication skills, as well as improving their confidence in a new language. I choose to use a multimedia platform when teaching as it allows students to engage with their subjects in innovative and creative ways. Through this they can take on the initiative to study in their own time through different available sources.
I have also tutored English Literature and Language and History, two subjects I am still studying at Masters level today. In French, History and English, I have worked with students from age 5 to 18, and I have enjoyed my time at all these different levels.
Having lived and studied in France, the UK, the US and Singapore, I am completely bilingual in French and English. I am currently a Masters student at the Royal College of Art in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum. My Undergraduate studies involved English, French, History, Theology and Philosophy. I really enjoy teaching and have worked with children through charity associations, public and private schools and through tutoring. I have studied the both GCSEs, IGCSEs and the IB and I this has stood me in good stead in building a strong teacher-student relationship.
When tutoring, I like to build a strong relationship with the student and to create a comfortable learning environment. I enjoy tutoring English and French literature and language and often use popular culture and a multimedia approach, including current news articles as well as film and music. I want the students to find educational sources in their daily lives. I usually start with warm-up exercises such as translating song lyrics in the correct grammatical format or imagining the direction of a book's film adaptation, before delving into the more specific points of improvement and exploring past examination papers.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am currently studying my Masters in History of Design at the Royal College of Art with the Victoria and Albert Museum. I spend the majority of my spare time volunteering at the museum in the Research Department and help with preparations for upcoming exhibitions.
