Prior to becoming a teacher and tutor, I have a strong background in Science and Maths, achieving top grades at A-level (A*AA respectively in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics). Following this, I pursued a BSc (hons) at the University of Manchester in Biomedical Science followed by a Masters in Maternal and Fetal Health at the University of Manchester.
Following this, I decided my strengths lay in teaching through years of sports coaching and tutoring friends children. I then achieved my PGCE in teaching and more recently completed a Master's in Education.
Outside of tutoring, I currently work part time as lead practitioner which involves coaching teachers in Science and Maths teaching at my current trust.
I am a high school Science teacher with over 6 years of experience. I am currently lead practitioner in my department in charge of teaching and learning. As well as this, I have over three years tutoring experience, tutoring GCSE Science and Maths as well as A-level Chemistry and Biology and up to GCSE maths. I am also an examiner and content creator. I have a Masters in Science as well as a PGCE and MA in teaching.
I have a great passion for teaching and for my subjects and enjoy inspiring my students to do the same. I work with a wide variety of students from those struggling to get to grips with the subject to those that want to achieve the top grades.
During the first session, we will develop a plan for future sessions to achieve the goal of the student. My typical tutoring approach is to spend half of the session on content, knowledge and understanding and the second half spend working on question practice and application of knowledge. This is of course very flexible dependent on what we are trying to achieve but typically that is how the lessons will go.
I work as lead practitioner in high school in the North West as well as working for several exam boards and publishers.
In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors with my son and two dogs as well as playing squash and the piano.
