Finding the right tutor for each student
We go the extra mile to match you with a great tutor and ensure a perfect fit.
When you request a tutor through Keystone we spend a significant amount of time learning about your circumstances. Priding ourselves on how well we know our tutors’ specialist strengths, we ensure that we put forward the very best tutor for your requirements.
During the first session the tutor starts by assessing where you are at, your academic ability, and your strengths and perceived weaknesses. Tutors will then devise a programme tailored to your specific circumstances.
After the first lesson, one of our dedicated client managers will contact you to find out how the lesson went. Our client managers are always available at the end of the phone and they are frequently praised for their efficiency, dedication and responsiveness.
We have a monthly reporting system which is used to update parents on an ongoing basis. The monthly report details:
- the focus of that month’s tutoring
- the form of assessment used
- the student's achievements and areas for further work
- the focus for the coming month
The regular, rigorous reporting of the tutors we represent is frequently commended.

Finding the right tutor
for each child
Step 1: Detailed Consultation
Before we can help a student, we often need to spend a significant amount of time learning about the student's requirements. Most consultations are carried out over the phone or on a video call.
Step 2: Academic Assessment (optional)
Students sit our custom-made academic assessments to indicate their level in relation to their peers, and in order to identify suggested areas to work on. Parents also seek academic assessments for their children to determine their general strengths and weaknesses, and decide upon a set of objectives for the course of tuition.
Step 3: Tutor Selection Process
The selection of the tutor is an integral part of our process. Priding ourselves on how well we know the varying strengths of each tutor, we ensure that each decision is informed by the expectation of a successful match between the tutor and student.
Step 4: Regular Progress Monitoring
After the first lesson, one of our dedicated client managers will contact you to find out how the lesson went. Our client managers are always available at the end of the phone and they are frequently praised for their efficiency, dedication and responsiveness.
Step 5: Monthly Reporting & Feedback
Tutors submit a monthly report detailing the work done in the month; the successes and areas to work on; and the work for the coming month. Our regular, rigorous reporting is frequently praised by parents.

The Importance of University League Tables
How important are University League Tables?
University League Tables are not nearly as important as they are often believed to be.
While it may be true that there are employability advantages if you attend Oxford, Cambridge, or another top institution (e.g. from the Russell Group), the biggest advantage you can give yourself is to study the right course for you at the institution that suits you best.
Though I generally discourage students from spending much time looking at league tables, one of the areas where they might provide some useful insight is the reputation of the university for the chosen course of study.
For example, for a student who wishes to study Computer Science, the University of Aberdeen ranks 4th in the UK for its Computer Science department, even though its overall ranking is 20th (Guardian, 2022). Aberdeen may not be a typical “top five” choice, but for a student who wishes to level up their Computer Science skills, it could be well worth considering.
There are many unexpected surprises like this. You can try this tool on the Guardian for your chosen course of study.
