“My son often speaks of Daniel with enormous affection and gratitude. At Marlborough College he created an atmosphere of curiosity and excitement around ideas.”

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring students preparing for GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and IB examinations. My subjects include English Language and Literature, Psychology, Economics, History of Art, Business Studies and Philosophy.

I have particular expertise in essay-based subjects and university preparation, including Oxbridge admissions support, interview practice and personal statement guidance. I have worked with a wide range of learners, including international students and those with attention difficulties or other learning differences.

A Cambridge graduate with additional first-class honours degrees in English and Psychology, I am an experienced teacher, academic leader and education consultant with more than thirty years’ experience across educational settings in the UK, Europe, the United States and the Middle East. My teaching spans English, Psychology, Economics, Philosophy and History of Art, and includes senior leadership roles in leading independent schools as well as sixteen years as a private family tutor to the Saudi Royal Family.

I have extensive experience teaching students aged 11–18, alongside significant work in curriculum development, examinations administration, Oxbridge entrance preparation and international programmes including UK, US and IB curricula. My professional work combines classroom teaching with educational strategy, staff development and personalised academic support designed to help students achieve their full potential. Most recently, I have served as Head of Academics and Examinations Officer at Kairos Montessori School in Portugal.

“Applying to universities in the US felt overwhelming at first. Daniel helped me completely transform my writing. He showed me how to structure ideas, develop arguments and write confidently in longer prose answers. His guidance on my application essays made a huge difference, and I was fortunate to receive a scholarship and go on to study in Boulder, Colorado. Many thanks, Daniel!”

“My daughter was struggling with IB Microeconomics because she could not really understand the graphs and diagrams. Daniel explained the ideas behind the curves and the shaded areas, helping her see what the models meant rather than just memorising them. This made a huge difference to her confidence and exam preparation. He also gave excellent guidance on her Economics IA essay. We are very grateful for his support here in Guangzhou.”

My tutoring is structured, analytical and highly personalised. I begin by identifying each student’s academic strengths and areas for development before designing a tailored programme that aligns closely with the student’s examination syllabus and long-term goals.

A central focus of my teaching is the development of clarity of thought and effective written expression. Through close reading, structured discussion and targeted practice, I help students refine their essay technique and develop a clear understanding of what examiners are looking for.

While improving examination performance is important, my broader aim is to build confidence and intellectual independence. I want students to develop the skills and assurance needed to approach complex academic challenges with clarity, discipline and confidence.

Alongside my work as a teacher and tutor, I am also an active writer and educational consultant. Since 2019, I have worked as an English consultant to the CEO of the King Khalid Foundation in Riyadh, contributing research, policy writing and speech preparation. My work with the Foundation has included research reports and publications relating to sustainability, philanthropy and civil society in Saudi Arabia, including work connected to the country’s Vision 2030 agenda. During Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the G20 Summit in Riyadh in 2020, I contributed research and written materials for institutional publications and communications, and I have continued to support the Foundation’s work in the years following COP26.

My research contributions include work on philanthropic strategy and civil-sector development in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, including contributions to research published in collaboration with the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge examining philanthropy and innovative financing in the region.

In addition to my consultancy work, I am also a published novelist. I have written several novels including 'Glengoth', 'Portrait of a Landscape', and 'Where Are the Songs of Spring?'. My work has received finalist medals in international independent book awards, including recognition in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

I continue to write fiction and essays alongside my educational work and occasionally undertake speechwriting and research projects relating to education, culture and philanthropy.
