I started my tutoring career during my GCSE's where I helped students prepare for their common entrance exams. This is when I first realised that tutoring was a career that I really enjoyed - I loved being able to help students achieve admission to their desired school where possible. Throughout school I continued to tutor students for common entrance exams, GCSE's and eventually A-levels.
On my gap year I worked as a nanny for a boy with severe autism. This rewarding job improved my communication skills and taught me valuable lessons in tutoring students with additional support needs. I learned how to navigate difficult tasks effectively, set firm boundaries and build trust. This role gave me indispensable insight into how the multidisciplinary team works within an educational context. Since this role, I have been able to utilize the skills learned to help work with a range of students with additional support needs including deafness, ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. I also worked in a residential children's summer school which gave me the opportunity to teach students from ages 7-16 in a range of subjects.
Following this, I studied my undergraduate degree in Social Policy at the London school of Economics where I began tutoring university admissions to top universities such as LSE, UCL, Imperial, Kings, Cambridge and Oxford. During my time at LSE I also began tutoring students in Academic Writing, helping students achieve top grades in courseworks and dissertations in a range of subjects including Social Policy, Sociology, Education, History, Politics, International Relations, Anthropology, Gender Studies and other Social Sciences.
Following my graduation from LSE, I began studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Cambridge. I diversified my private tutoring into medical admissions after achieving high scores myself in the UCAT (3020 Band 1) and GAMSAT ( 74 - 75, 62, 80). My greatest achievement was helping a Graduate-Entry Dentistry Applicant who sought my help after 2 previously unsuccessful admissions cycles. I helped increase his UCAT score by 340 points and helped him receive 2 offers. I also enjoyed providing free or severely discounted services to those in need. I was honoured to be able to provide free tutoring to a refugee and help her secure an offer from her first-choice medical school.
During this time I became formally employed by one of the large medical admissions tutoring companies. My greatest achievement with this firm was co-writing a book called How to Ace the BMAT. During my time with this firm I maintained a 5/5 star rating average from 18 different students. This led to me being awarded the prestigious title of one of the top 10% of tutors within the firm.
Following this I began working for an elite university admissions consultancy service which provides comprehensive packages to students applying to university. My primary role involves helping students apply to medical school, this includes preparing for admissions tests including the BMAT, UCAT and GAMSAT, helping with personal statements and preparing for interviews. My particular expertise is in Oxbridge Admissions, Graduate Entry Admissions and Scottish Applications. My proudest achievement was my work with a reapplicant who sought my services after failing to receive any offers in the previous admissions cycle – I was able to improve his UCAT score by 230 points (3030) and help with interview preparation leading to 3/4 offers. Similarly, I have had 100% success with my 2 Oxbridge clients at this firm – 1 receiving an offer for Medicine at Oxford and one receiving an offer for HSPS at Cambridge.
I was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. I now live in Cambridge, England where I am studying Medicine. I am in my penultimate year of Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Cambridge. I have a 74% average – 1st Class including first class grades in every single exam in the most recent 2 years. Before Medicine I studied my undergraduate degree in International Social and Public Policy (BSc) where I achieved a 1st class.
Prior to university I attended Fettes, an international boarding school in Edinburgh Scotland. I studied A-Levels in Government & Politics A*, Geography A*, Maths A*, Economics A*, Chemistry A and an EPQ A*. I also studied GCSE's in English A*, English Literature A*, Maths A*, History A*, French A*, Economics A*, Chemistry A*, Physics A*, Biology A*, Geography A*.
I have tutored for many years and greatly enjoy the opportunity to help students achieve their goals.
Having worked as a tutor for many years I find that taking a thorough approach to the goal optimises the chance of success. For example, in a personal statement I like to analyse things line by line, in an admissions test I like to cover every type of question and in academic writing support I like to cover every paragraph in detail. I think it is important to push students to achieve their full potential so I like to make my lessons challenging.
Despite this push for academic excellence, I want my students to feel relaxed in the lesson so that they feel supported to learn to the best of their abilities. I am a fairly laid back tutor and like to be approachable.
Penultimate year of medical school, interested in allergy and immunology.
