I have been a full-time teacher since completing my PGCE in 2008. I worked from 2011 to 2021 in independent girls' schools in London - first at Notting Hill & Ealing High School as Head of Physics and later Head of Science. While at NHEHS I progressed to Head of Sixth Form, a role I held from 2016 until 2020, before moving to Francis Holland School, Sloane Square as Deputy Head Pastoral. I am a highly experienced Physics teacher - particularly in relation to the IGCSE and A level specifications. I have prepared multiple students for success in the PAT who have ultimately gone on to take up places at Oxford in Physics and Engineering. Throughout my career I have worked extensively with students 1-1, both in school and outside as a private tutor.
Students I have tutored have gained admission to a host of top schools, including MCS, CLC, Westminster, Brighton, Wellington and Sevenoaks. My A level students typically progress by at least one grade during our work together, with many achieving A and A* grades.
As Head of Sixth Form I prepared hundreds of young people for university application, and I can advise on course choice, academic research, personal statement writing and interview technique.
As a member of senior leadership in consortium schools for five years, I have conducted dozens of 11+ interviews, and can advise on what independent schools are looking for in this process, as well as help to develop these qualities. As an ex-Head of Sixth Form, I am also an expert in the 16+ admissions process; I have recently supported students who gained places at Magdalen College School, Cheltenham Ladies' College and Westminster School.
I am a highly experienced Physics teacher and mentor - an ex-Head of Science and ex-Head of Sixth Form, and my most recent role was that of Deputy Head Pastoral at Francis Holland School, Sloane Square.
I gained my undergraduate degree in Physics from Oxford University in 2007, and during the course of this decided that I wanted to teach. I completed my PGCE (also at Oxford) immediately after graduating and I also have a MSc in Learning and Teaching (again from Oxford), which I completed part-time from 2012-2014.
I began teaching full-time immediately after completing my PGCE in 2008, and moved to London in 2011, where I worked until 2021 in independent girls' schools. Most recently I have stepped away from full-time work in schools to relocate and pursue personal interests including my small business.
“Many, many thanks for everything again. You have been such a brilliant physics teacher and I have so enjoyed studying with you.”
“Thank you for giving my daughter the confidence she needs to keep gaining momentum in Physics. It means a lot to her, and to us, that she has a very positive experience in this subject. She has been very glad for her sessions with you, they have made a noticeable difference.”
My pastoral expertise allows me completely to personalise my tuition approach to each child, and brings an extra dimension to my skill as a 1-1 tutor. I care about your child's learning experience, enjoyment and engagement, as well as about their outcomes. Indeed, my ethos is that academic success can only be the product of confidence and motivation, qualities I will work to instil in your child if they struggle in these areas. I am positive and encouraging, and fundamentally believe in everyone's capacity for growth and personal achievement. I bring empathy, compassion and fun to the tuition process, and I have a full toolkit of mindset based activities I can use to help students whose difficulty lies in motivation or organisation, rather than subject-specific knowledge or skills.
I have a small business providing running coaching services online. I live near to the beautiful mountains and fells of the Lake District, and spend spare time exploring these. The online nature of my business gives me excellent flexibility to offer tuition at almost any time of day throughout the week.
