Daisy-May
Daisy-May is a diligent and resourceful tutor with lots of experience. At interview she impressed us with her supportive and engaging style.
“Daisy is a very inspiring tutor who challenged me to think in new ways. Her passion for a wide range of subjects is infectious. Yet perhaps my favourite quality of Daisy's is the care she has for her students. She goes above and beyond to ensure that her students are feeling secure in their work and I thoroughly enjoyed our sessions.”
Daisy-May has over a decade of experience specialising in A Level and undergraduate Humanities tuition. An experienced tutor in Politics, Philosophy, English Literature, Psychology, Sociology and Film & Media Studies, she is particularly known for helping students develop the sophisticated thinking, essay writing and analytical skills required for success at the highest academic level. She has extensive experience preparing students for A Level examinations, competitive university applications and undergraduate study, including supporting multiple successful applicants to Oxford and Cambridge through admissions tests, personal statements, written work and interviews.
The majority of Daisy-May's work is one-to-one, supporting students from leading schools and universities across the UK and internationally. Alongside private tuition, she has worked as an intervention specialist in schools and colleges, including The BRIT School, where she gained valuable classroom experience.
Her principal teaching subjects are:
Politics
English Literature
Philosophy
Psychology
Sociology
Film & Media Studies
In addition to subject teaching, Daisy-May specialises in the academic skills that underpin success across the Humanities. She has extensive experience helping students strengthen their essay writing, critical thinking, close textual analysis, argument construction, independent research and examination technique. She is particularly sought after by students aiming to move beyond secure knowledge towards the sophisticated analysis and originality expected of top A Level and university work.
Her academic interests include political philosophy, the philosophy of literature, the psychology of the self and identity, democratic theory, and interdisciplinary Humanities. She enjoys helping students draw connections across disciplines and engage with ideas beyond the specification, particularly those preparing for competitive university courses.
Daisy-May has successfully supported students applying to Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, King's College London, the London School of Economics and other leading universities. She has also prepared students for entry to some of the UK's most competitive independent schools, including Eton, Westminster, Alleyn's, St Paul's Girls' School, James Allen's Girls' School (JAGS) and Wycombe Abbey.

Daisy-May has worked as a tutor and educational advisor for over a decade. She believes that her success stems not only from deep subject knowledge, but from the close relationships she builds with her students and her genuine enjoyment of helping them grow in confidence, curiosity and academic ambition. Few things give her greater satisfaction than seeing a student discover that they are capable of more than they imagined.
An insatiable curiosity has led Daisy-May to specialise across a broad range of Humanities disciplines, including Politics, English Literature and Language, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Creative Writing, Theatre Studies, and Film & Media. Far from seeing these as separate subjects, she views them as different ways of exploring the same enduring questions about human nature, society, power, identity and meaning. This interdisciplinary perspective enriches her teaching, enabling her to help students make insightful connections, think more critically, and write with greater depth and originality.
Her own academic journey reflects this love of learning. Alongside achieving outstanding examination results—including full marks in several A Level papers—she read Literature, Film and Theatre at the University of Manchester before undertaking postgraduate study and professional training across a range of disciplines. These include Screenwriting at Goldsmiths, Directing at RADA, a Level 3 qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy with LC&CTA, EFL Teaching at Kingston University, and training with the Mindfulness in Schools Project. She continues to study alongside her professional work, believing that the best teachers remain lifelong learners.
Alongside her teaching, Daisy-May has a longstanding interest in the relationship between storytelling, psychology, philosophy and mindfulness. She is particularly fascinated by how the stories we inherit—and the ones we tell ourselves—shape the way we understand both ourselves and the world.
Her training in counselling and mindfulness has also given her a strong understanding of how students learn, develop their attention, build confidence and overcome obstacles to learning. This informs her teaching in subtle but important ways, helping her to create lessons that are intellectually ambitious whilst remaining attentive to each student's individual needs, motivation and stage of development.
Above all, Daisy hopes to inspire in her students not simply excellent grades, but a lifelong love of ideas. She believes that the best education equips students not only to succeed in examinations, but to think critically, remain curious, and continue learning long after they leave the classroom.
“Daisy tutored my son in English and RS. I found her very thorough, diligent and with a good command of her subjects. My son performed better than was expected and I am confident that this was largely due to Daisy`s excellent teaching methods and skills. I would highly recommend her as a tutor.”
“Holiday and Politic lessons have come to an end and I got such positive feedback from my daughter throughout all the lessons. I believe, she did not only make good progress but had lots of fun and enjoyed every single lesson with Daisy. We are very grateful for such a positive result on such short notice!”
“Daisy-May has taught my daughter for over five years now. My daughter has struggled with reading and writing and was really challenged every stage of the way with her studies. Daisy has completely turned that around. She has worked closely with my daughter's school schedule and managed to engage her in her work. She has made the sessions stimulating and inspiring. My daughter has gained confidence as a person and actually enjoys learning now. It has helped amazingly with her achievements at school and really complimented her studies.”
“I just wanted to let you know that we got our results today having been at an E at the beginning of L6 to working between a C/B at the beginning of U6 I managed to whip out an A in the final exam and was 1 mark off of an A* I have asked for a remark in case I could get bumped up to the A* but even if that doesn't happen I am so unbelievably happy with the A and genuinely couldn't thank you enough for all that you did in helping me!!”

When she isn't tutoring, Daisy-May is usually reading several books at once, writing essays she may or may not one day publish, practising yoga, or trying to persuade her family to accompany her on another literary pilgrimage. Much of her free time is spent outdoors with her young family, and she is always on the lookout for a beautiful walk, an independent bookshop or a good cup of coffee.
