Here's a secret most students never get told: doing well in exams isn't about being ''naturally smart.'' It's about knowing how learning actually works and using that to your advantage.

A bit about me. I've spent eleven years teaching in international schools across Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean including St George's British International School in Rome, ranked among the best international schools in the world. I've worked with students from every kind of cultural and linguistic background, so wherever you're starting from, I've probably taught someone like you.
Geography is my specialism, and I've taught it at every level: KS3, (I)GCSE (Edexcel, Cambridge, OCR) , A-level (AQA) and IB Diploma at both Standard and Higher Level. I've also taught History (Cambridge & Edexcel) Psychology (AQA), and Global Perspectives (Cambridge) at KS3 and KS4 (IGCSE). Whichever exam board or programme you're on, I know exactly what it demands because preparing students for these exams has been my day job for over a decade.
And the results back it up: 73% A*–A at IGCSE, an average grade of 6.2 at IB, with my students consistently beating their predicted grades (some by nearly two full grades).
Six of those years were spent as Head of Geography and Head of Humanities, leading departments, mentoring trainee teachers, and shaping how schools teach.
I'm from Ireland, where my own education journey began with my Leaving Certificate at Athlone College. From there I went on to university to study Geography, Psychology and History, majoring in Geography with a minor in Psychology, and graduating with a 1:1. I then began a Masters at Trinity College Dublin, one of the world's great universities, but somewhere along the way the teaching bug bit me, and it bit hard. So I moved to Liverpool to train as a teacher at the renowned Edge Hill University, and I've never looked back.
That was over eleven years ago. Since then I've taught in international schools around the world, led humanities departments, mentored qualified teachers on the most effective ways to teach, and trained trainee teachers at the very start of their careers.
But here's the thing. Through all of it, my favourite part of the job has always been the same: teaching. Not the meetings, not the paperwork, just working with students. And tutoring is teaching at its absolute best. One student and one goal. That's exactly why I do it, and why I love it.
Here's a secret most students never get told: doing well in exams isn't about being ''naturally smart.'' It's about knowing how learning actually works and using that to your advantage.
Everything I do is built on what research says genuinely helps people learn. Showing you exactly what a great answer looks like. Quizzing you just as you're about to forget, because that's what makes knowledge stick. Pairing ideas with images, because your brain loves a picture.
Then there's exam technique. Exams have rules command words, mark schemes, how examiners think. We'll crack that code together, so all your energy goes into actually understanding the subject.
Sessions aren't me talking at you for an hour. You'll do plenty of the thinking (sorry that's how learning works), and you might even enjoy it.
When I'm not teaching, I'm usually planning my next trip. Travel is my biggest passion, and so far I've visited 49 countries and counting. Not bad for a geography teacher, and it means my lessons are full of stories and examples from places I've actually been. Beyond that, you'll find me at music festivals or watching football, and in a previous life I was a DJ!
As for availability, I've recently made my biggest move yet, relocating to Argentina to live with my girlfriend. After eleven years of full time teaching, I'm now devoting much more of my time to tutoring, which means I can offer far more flexibility than most tutors. I tend to be available throughout the week, including evenings and weekends, and I'm happy to find regular slots that fit around your family's schedule.
