Until July of 2025 I was employed at Coedcae School Llanelli and was an Assistant Headteacher. I chose to step away from this role to pursue a different path in education.
Whist at Coedcae, alongside my roles in supporting a dynamic Senor Leadership Team, my main whole-school responsibilities included; analysis of whole school data, baseline testing and implementation of systems for tracking and supporting learners, timetabling, curriculum leader in Welsh Baccalaureate and strategic lead in financial literacy.
During my time as Curriculum Leader for mathematics Level 2 outcomes increased from 50% to 72%. Level 1 outcomes remained above 97% annually. I was identified as an excellent class practitioner, annually, in observations {both internal and external} and I developed a strong philosophy of sharing good practice and encouragement to use different pedagogical approaches to support improvement across the department.
I worked with the LEA to support development of numeracy across the county as a ‘Leader of Learning’ and under local authority direction I visited schools to identify opportunities in improving mathematics and numeracy across the curriculum and improve tracking models within other departments. As lead for Welsh Baccalaureate I totally restructured the delivery, content and themes for each challenge which allowed pupils to access learning hours in far more contextual and meaningful lessons. Financial literacy outcomes improved annually and 2024 saw our best outcomes ever.

I like to make my sessions interesting, fun, interactive and progressive. Mathematics can be a difficult subject for many people and there is a need to engage people and explain why they are learning certain things. My aim is always for the learner to enjoy while they learn and my variety of approaches in sessions allow them to access maths within different forms.
Since leaving my role at Coedcae I have engaged in maths tutoring and I have already created a strong list of clients. I have tutored a few pupils who are EOTAS and incorporated significant wellbeing strategies into lessons – one pupil returned to school after a two year absence and his parents identified my contribution to this. I retain my aim to make lessons engaging, fun but most of all meeting the learners’ needs. I tutor pupils from the age of 7 to 19 and have supported a number of pupils through their resit GCSE exams.
